Rubén Eduardo González, amado esposo de Julia Benítez, padre, abuelo, bisabuelo, cuñado, tío y amigo, falleció en paz el 9 de Diciembre de 2025, rodeado de amor.

Nació el 4 de Mayo de 1947 en Nuevo Casas Grandes, Chihuahua, Mexico y vivió una vida guiada por el trabajo duro, la generosidad y una profunda devoción por su familia. En Ciudad Juárez, trabajó en CONASUPO y posteriormente como agente de tránsito, sirviendo tanto en Juárez como en el estado de Chihuahua.

Al llegar a Chicago, Rubén construyó una vida marcada por la dedicación y la habilidad. Se formó y trabajó como químico, y durante muchos años laboró en la industria de la seda, donde creó y probó colores para ropa y corbatas. Más adelante, trabajó junto a su hermano como soldador y experto en sistemas hidráulicos, dando mantenimiento e instalando componentes eléctricos en vehículos de la Ciudad de Chicago, incluidos quitanieves y otros equipos esenciales. Rubén también aportó su talento a una empresa ambiental, ayudando a diseñar y construir hornos industriales que reducían las emisiones contaminantes. En cada trabajo, Rubén actuó con orgullo, precisión y una ética laboral inigualable—una cualidad que lo definió y le ganó el respeto de todos los que trabajaron con él.

Fuera del trabajo, Rubén encontraba alegría en las cosas simples y significativas que más amaba. Disfrutaba viajar y explorar el mundo, muchas veces en largos recorridos por carretera, teniendo a Japón y Tailandia en un lugar muy especial de su corazón. Le gustaba tocar la guitarra, cantar, pintar, ver películas, cuidar su jardín y pasar tiempo al aire libre.

La pesca fue una de sus grandes pasiones. Durante muchos años, Rubén tuvo una lancha para pescar lobina y atesoró el tiempo compartido pescando con sus hijos, sobrinos y especialmente con sus nietos, creando recuerdos que vivirán para siempre. 

El simple hecho de compartir tiempo y ver a sus nietos lo llenaba por completo. ¡Amaba profundamente a sus nietos!

Rubén también amaba la cacería y durante muchos años cazó tanto en México como en distintas partes de los Estados Unidos. La cacería de venado, en particular, le brindaba una gran felicidad, y siempre esperaba con entusiasmo sus viajes de cacería—momentos que valoraba tanto por la tradición como por la camaradería.

Rubén era conocido por reunir a las personas a través de la comida y las tradiciones. Sus grandes desayunos eran legendarios—especialmente sus famosas papas—y ninguna película estaba completa sin las palomitas hechas por Rubén. Tenía una manera especial de hacer que los momentos cotidianos se sintieran únicos con tan solo estar presente.

Por encima de todo, Rubén fue conocido por su bondad y generosidad. Siempre estaba dispuesto a ayudar a sus hijos, familiares, vecinos o a cualquier persona que lo necesitara. En cada reunión, su preocupación siempre era por los demás—que todos hubieran comido, estuvieran cómodos y llegaran bien a casa. Junto a su amada esposa, Julia, creó un hogar donde todos eran bienvenidos y tratados como familia.

En sus últimas semanas, Rubén enfrentó una breve enfermedad con fortaleza y serenidad. Fue diagnosticado con cáncer en etapa cuatro, y en menos de dos meses falleció. Al saber que no había más opciones médicas, eligió estar en casa, donde se encontraba cómodo, en paz y rodeado de sus hermanos e hijos, quienes compartieron momentos valiosos con él durante sus últimos días. No sufrió dolor y estuvo exactamente donde deseaba estar—con su familia.

Cuando llegó el momento de salir de su hogar por última vez, familiares, amigos y vecinos se reunieron afuera para honrarlo—despidiéndolo con un fuerte y emotivo aplauso, un poderoso tributo a la vida que vivió y al hombre que fue.

Rubén deja un legado de amor, risas, tradición, música y una bondad inquebrantable. Su presencia será profundamente extrañada, pero su espíritu vivirá para siempre en las innumerables vidas que tocó.

Será por siempre amado, por siempre respetado y por siempre recordado.

Ruben Eduardo Gonzalez, beloved husband of Julia Benitez, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 9, 2025, surrounded by love.

Born on May 4, 1947, in Nuevo Casas Grandes, Chihuahua, Mexico Ruben lived a life rooted in hard work, generosity, and deep devotion to his family. In Ciudad Juárez, he worked for CONASUPO and later served as a transit police officer, both in Juárez and throughout the state of Chihuahua.

After coming to Chicago, Ruben built a life defined by dedication and skill. He trained and worked as a chemist and spent many years in the silk industry, where he created and tested colors for clothing and ties. He later worked alongside his brother as a welder and hydraulics expert, maintaining and installing electrical components on City of Chicago vehicles, including snowplows and other essential equipment. Ruben also contributed his talents to an environmental company, helping design and build industrial furnaces that reduced harmful emissions. Whatever the job, Ruben approached it with pride, precision, and an unmatched work ethic—a quality that defined him and earned the respect of everyone who worked alongside him.

Outside of work, Ruben found joy in the simple and meaningful things he loved most. He enjoyed traveling and exploring the world, often by long road trips, with Japan and Thailand holding a special place in his heart. He loved playing the guitar, singing, painting, watching movies, caring for his lawn, and spending time outdoors.

Fishing was one of his greatest passions. For many years, Ruben owned a bass boat and treasured the time spent fishing with his children, nephews, and especially his grandchildren—creating memories that will last a lifetime. Simply sharing time and seeing his grandchildren brought him complete joy. He loved his grandchildren deeply.

Ruben also loved hunting and spent many years hunting in both Mexico and throughout the United States. Deer hunting, in particular, brought him great joy, and he always looked forward to his hunting trips—time he valued for both the tradition and the camaraderie.

Ruben was known for bringing people together through food and tradition. His big breakfasts were legendary—especially his famous potatoes—and no movie was complete without popcorn made by Ruben. He had a way of making everyday moments feel special simply by being there.

Above all else, Ruben was known for his kindness and generosity. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to his children, family, neighbors, or anyone in need. At every gathering, his concern was always for others—whether everyone had eaten, felt comfortable, or made it home safely. Alongside his beloved wife, Julia, he created a home where everyone felt welcome and was treated like family.

In his final weeks, Ruben faced a brief illness with quiet strength. He was diagnosed with stage four cancer, and within less than two months, he passed away. Knowing there was nothing more doctors could do, he chose to be at home, where he was comfortable, at peace, and surrounded by his brothers and children, who spent precious time with him during his final days. He was not in pain and was exactly where he wanted to be—with family.

When it came time for Ruben to leave his home one final time, family, friends, and neighbors stood outside to honor him—sending him off with a loud and heartfelt round of applause, a powerful tribute to the life he lived and the man he was.

Ruben leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, tradition, music, and unwavering kindness. His presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the many lives he touched.

He will be forever loved, forever respected, and forever missed.

As Ruben would always say:

“Hasta mañana.”
