Ruben's obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ruben "Stranger" Avalos, who peacefully succumbed to Congestive Heart Failure on December 19, 2025. Born on July 30, 1976, Ruben, also fondly known as Stranger, was a cherished figure known for his warm personality and humor. He often kept the room lively with his jokes, giving everyone around him a reason to smile.
Ruben touched many lives, not just with his radiant personality, but also with the wisdom he shared. He frequently urged others to embrace their individuality eternally and take a stand for their beliefs, a testament to his strong-willed spirit. His legacy shall perpetuate in his beautiful children, whom he adored with all his heart.
His love for life was evident in his hobbies and interests, which ranged from fishing to bicycling, tied inextricably to the city of Denver, CO, where he moved in 2014. His favorite local spot, fondly referred to as 'The Hood', held a special place in his heart. A die-hard fan of the Nevada Raiders, Ruben took great pleasure in watching their games, apportioning enthusiasm equally between sports and his favorite music band, the West Side Connections. Silver and black were his favorite colors, reflecting the simplistic elegance of his personality.
While Ruben held a profound love for various things, his favorite food, My Chula's Food, was simply a class apart. This love for food was matched with the love for his wife, Chula Theresa Avalos. Despite the trials and tribulations of life that saw him divorced in May 2014, Ruben never let his spirit falter and moved ahead with resilience and grit.
Ruben leaves behind his beloved family who mourn his loss: his brothers Solomon and Frank Avalos; his children, Ruben V. Avalos, and Laila Avalos; his mother, Maria Elena Camacho; his ex-wife, Catherine Avalos; and his wife, Chula Theresa Avalos. Each of them holds precious memories of Ruben, enshrining his legacy in their hearts.
As we bid Ruben farewell, let us celebrate the joyous life he led, remembering him for the laughter, love, and wisdom he brought into our lives. His absence will be deeply felt, but we find solace knowing that he is at peace. Ruben will always be remembered, sadly missed, but never forgotten.
