Royce's obituary
Royce Wilhelm Arndt, a native Calgarian, age 60, passed away unexpectedly at his winter home in the Dominican Republic on December 10, 2022
'The function of a man is to live, not to exist. I shall not waste my days trying to prolong them. I shall use my time', “To truly live your life, you must enjoy it” – Daniel Craig
This was something Royce implemented in his life, and he did it with his sweetie pie, Sandy Stephenson who he loved fiercely for 23 years and forever more. His son Kenny, for who he always set the example of positivity and happiness and became his legend. His stepdaughters Jenny May (Ben) and Sara Stephenson (Stephen) for who he taught patience, understanding, kindness, and not to sweat the small stuff. His granddaughter Isla May, his sunshine who he absolutely adored and loved. Royce would light up instantly when she was around. His Dad, Hugh Arndt who he looked up to immensely, a man that taught him everything he knew, a bond that was unbreakable. His Mom, Erica, always raiding her garden as a child and getting his favourite lemonade in return. His brother Reagan and sister Renae who as a big brother he was able to support with his unique way of encouraging and having fun. His friends, he embraced everyone he met, treasured his BFF’s, and was always willing to lend a helping hand. His many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. they always made the most out of every moment. His love of Austin his German shepherd, his barky Bouw, and tenacious Tyson.
He had a love of music that he pursued through deejaying for several years, performing at many friends and family members weddings. This brought him to Edmonton where an uncle taught him the skill of hardwood flooring. This gave him his lifetime career and his love of building anything for Sandy. Everyone was “floored” by his art and impeccable skill.
Royce had the ability to light up a room with his smile, his bad Dad jokes and his genuine love of being around the people he cherished.
He was known for his insane massages & messages, neither of which were for the faint of heart.
He was an avid fan of James Bond, the Calgary Flames and always a skeptic of the refs, Gary Bettman and Brodie.
He lived his life like one of his favourite shows Mash ‘Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happy Hour’ and “I’m not sleeping, I’m inspecting the inside of my eyelids.”
As life went on, he could not wait for the next adventure, he found the love of exploring new places near and far. From Ferintosh, Alberta to the Great Wall of China. From Canmore to Barcelona, from Great Falls Montana to Amsterdam. From Lake Louise to jumping off a pirate ship in the British Virgin Islands.
He treasured his times at home, whether it was Calgary, Buck Lake, Las Vegas, or the Dominican Republic.
Royce you will be missed, loved and remembered always and forever.
