I was shocked to hear of the recent passing of Roy Spoon today. I was stationed at an Army base near Camp Casey, Korea (Roy's duty station) in the late 1980s. Although I never worked directly with Roy, I would occasionally visit Camp Casey on the weekends. Roy was affectionally nicknamed "the Spooner" by Air Force personnel at Camp Casey. His barracks antics would sometimes annoy you, but mostly he made you laugh!! You found out quickly he loved his family, intensely supported his OK sports teams, and enjoyed his job as a meteorologist. He was an excellent forecaster and a true Patriot. He will definitely be missed!! RIP Sgt. Spoon, I salute you!!

I don't know if anyone will read this; it's been a few months since his passing. I was stationed with Roy at Osan AB in Korea. He was a character for sure and appreciated and enjoyed by all! Sorry to come across this, but he was one-of-a-kind! God bless ya, buddy.

Oh the stories I can tell of my dad and how I used to just annoy him for fun (we had a fun relationship).
- I remember having my husband ask my father for my hand in marriage 4 years after we had gotten married
- He and I took some long road trips together. We drove from Fort Worth to Bristol, TN to see the NASCAR race (I mean if you're going to go to a race it should be at BMS). I freaked out in driving the narrow roads in the TN mountains and couldn't even look out the window without freaking out about plunging to my death.
- We drove from Fort Worth to Vacaville, CA (right in between San Francisco and Sacramento). Its a 26 hr drive and we did it without cruise control. We stopped in Phoenix to sleep over but it was so cold outside that we couldn't stay in the rest stop so we just got back on the road. 26 hrs with only a 1 hr stop and some food/gas breaks. Mind you I'm fairly certain he didn't have his DL at this time so I drove the first leg of the trip to El Paso so he wouldn't get caught driving in Texas without a DL.
- One of my favorite memories...I was walking through our living room to the kitchen and passing him sitting on the couch. He asked me what I had in my hands and I told him "Ahhhh" (as in open your mouth) and when he did it, I put the Q-Tips I had just used to clean my dogs ears right in his mouth. I won't share what he said to me.
- He and I bonded over the movie Drop Dead Fred and referred to each other as Fred (oh and FOH). Many of my online profile pics are a picture of DDFred.
