Roy's obituary
Dave was born on January 15, 1949 in Dallas, Texas to the parents of William (Andy) and Alliene McDonald. Dave had a heart of gold and was loved by many. He never met a stranger, referred by some as having a silver tongue. Dave enjoyed traveling and he traveled until he couldn't physically do it any longer.
Dave graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Dallas. Following graduation, he joined the United States Navy. During his 22 years in the Navy, Dave served in several areas of the world including a tour in Vietnam. His accreditations from the Navy include a Purple Heart Metal; Combat Action Ribbon; Presidential Unit Citation; Navy Unit Commendation; Meritorious Unit Commendation; Battle "E" Ribbon; Humanitarian Ribbon; Fourth Good Conduct Medal; Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal; Vietnam Campaign; Vietnam Service Medal; Vietnam Cross of Galentry; Expert Pistol; Expert Rifle; Sea Service Deployment Ribbon; National Defense Medal; and Navy Expeditionary Medal. After retiring from the Navy, Dave worked for the United States Postal Service at the Cincinnati Bulk Mail Center in Sharonville, Ohio. Upon retiring from UPSP, he returned to Texas, eventually settling in Denison.
Dave is survived by his son, Andrew (Andy) McDonald of Del City, Oklahoma; sister, Patti Flud of Wolfe City, Texas; twin brother, Dan McDonald of Forney, Texas, younger brother, Micah (Betty) McDonald of Wolfe City, Texas; sister Debbie DeCourcy of Centralhatchee, Georgia; sister-in-law, Sanoma McDonald of Weatherford, Texas, nieces and nephews, Amy (Omar) Garcia, Kim (Brad) Elkowitz, Heather (Steve) Sumrow, Ryan (Crystal) Flud, Angela Barnes, Jon (Maria) McDonald, Melissa, Becky McGrady, Tammy Johnson, Jennifer (Stephen) Klein, Aimee Ford; eighteen great nieces and nephews; one great-great niece, 2 great-great nephews; one aunt and cousins.
Also survived by his companion, Pat and those he fondly referred to as his bonus family.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Andy and Alliene McDonald, great niece, Kristen Garcia; youngest brother, Jim McDonald; brother-in-law, Jerry Flud; sister-in-law, Jane McDonald.
A funeral service will be held at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery with military honors on Friday, February 21, 11:15 am.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to The American Lung Association.
