James's obituary

Funeral Service for Mr. James Monroe Watkins, IV, 17, of Dadeville, Alabama, will be Saturday, June 24, 2023 at 2:00 pm at the Chapel of Langley Funeral Home. Pastor Steven Waldrep will officiate. His final ride will take place from the funeral home to the Dadeville City Cemetery following the service. The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 24, 2023 from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm at Langley Funeral Home.

James sped off into the sunset on Wednesday, June 14, 2023 at the University of Alabama Hospital in Birmingham. He was born on April 19, 2006 in Alexander City to James Monroe Watkins, III and Rosie Waldrep Saxon. James attended Dadeville High School where he just completed his Sophomore year and was looking forward to Junior year. He worked part time at Floyd's Feed and Seed while also working at Wind Creek State Park. His friends and family knew him as a hardworking, kind, and loving person who would always try to cheer you up or lend a helping hand. He would do anything for his friends, family, and community. James was an experimental soul who, regardless of the level of danger, would constantly look for new ways to explore and have fun. He enjoyed fishing, welding, and racing anything that he could. This went along with his love for motorcycles, trucks, and cars. If it could be raced, then he was all for it. As much as James loved the need for speed, nothing could compare to the love he had for his high school sweetheart, Nicole Spraggins, whom he planned on proposing to later this year. The one trait that his family holds on to the most is that no matter what the days would bring, James would never leave home without telling them, "I love you." His carefree and adventurous spirit will be greatly missed by all that knew him.

He is survived by his father, James Monroe Watkins, III (Kiani); mother, Rosie Saxon (John); brothers, Nicolas Joe "Nick" Watkins, Steven Zachary "Zack" Watkins, James Kenneth Saxon; sisters, Lillian Nicole "Lilly" Saxon, Samantha Jade "Sam" Clardy; grandparents, James Monroe Watkins, Jr., and Nelda LeeAnne Watkins, Steven Waldrep and Connie Waldrep, Ann Nelson Saxon, Harry John Greathouse; aunts and uncles, Shelby Denise Waldrep, LaKisha Kay Jones (Deon), Susan Smith, Joshua Waldrep (Ashlee), Suzanne Cannon (Todd); and his future wife, Nicole Spraggins.

"The only way to see a sunset is to ride into it."
