Rosemaree's obituary
Rosemaree Beth Wildfong was born on April 4, 1948 to Lyle and Edyth Wildfong in Longview, Washington at Cowlitz General Hospital. This facility had been used as a train station during World War II and converted to a hospital. She died unexpectedly on January 31, 2022 at home in downtown Portland, Oregon. She is remembered and loved by many people. She is survived by her loving sisters Delyla Laughlin of Rainier, Oregon and Claralee Williams of Woodland, Washington, her uncle and aunt, Robert and Barbara Gamble of Liberty Lake, Washington, her niece, Kim McAlpin (Mark) and nephew , David Williams (Sherri), numerous cousins, and her good friends Margieann Boss and Lora Meyers, as well as her beloved cat, Sassy.
Rosemaree grew up in Rainier, Oregon, attended Hudson Elementary and graduated from Rainier High School in 1966. She attended Prairie Bible Institute in Three Hills Alberta and graduated from Portland State University in 1985 with a BA Degree in Elementary Education. In her earlier years, she worked at Kalama Elementary School in Kalama Washington.
She enjoyed cooking, canning, knitting, painting, swimming, reading and trips to the Oregon Coast. She is remembered for her love of clam digging and for catching a salmon with her bare hands. Several years ago, she returned to Three Hills Alberta with Claralee, revisiting the area where she lived in part of her twenties as well as Banff, Glacier and Jasper National Parks. Rosemaree especially enjoyed an Alaska cruise with family. She loved card games and was very competitive with Yahtzee. Rosemaree lived in Portland for many years, rode public transportation, using her electric wheelchair and knew people all over the city. She was fiercely independent and fought for herself.
She researched family history and contacted people on both sides of her family. She was persistent when she was working on a project.
Many Saturdays Rosemaree could be seen at the Portland Farmer's Market at Portland State University. She enjoyed gardening in pots on her balcony and had purchased seeds to plant this Spring. She had a beautiful begonia that bloomed all winter. It was a tradition for Rosemaree and her sisters to make sauerkraut almost every Autumn for the past several years.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and attended the Market Street Branch. A celebration of her life will be held at her church on April 9, 2022 at 11 a.m. A Zoom link is available to watch the service.
