Rocky's obituary
Roscoe "Rocky" Campbell, IV was born on August 31, 1964, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Roscoe and Andrea Campbell (Lamb). The eldest of three siblings, Rocky embraced the love of family from an early age, helping to care for, guide, and support his younger siblings, Joy and Scott, throughout his younger years.
Rocky graduated from Pike High School where he excelled in football and basketball. He later attended Ball State University before eventually embarking on a 25-year career at Rolls Royce before retiring in 2020.
Rocky’s greatest treasure in life was his family. He married his soulmate, Chrystal Jones, on May 23, 1998, and the couple raised their blended family of six children with unconditional love. Rocky found love, joy, and pride in their family, and he was always present—supporting his children in their activities and sporting endeavors through their collegiate years and beyond.
Rocky was known for his caring, fun, and light-hearted nature. He had a love and passion for music, particularly the sounds of Funk, R&B, Soul and Jazz. Affectionately known as DJ Extra Large and Fat Cat, he was known for his big smile and lively personality while playing hits at local clubs and parties around Indy. He enjoyed sharing his love of music with family and friends at his home and at live concerts. He was an avid sports fan who loved watching games and engaging in spirited debates on sports trivia.
In his later years, Rocky enjoyed retirement with the endless support and care from his soulmate, which allowed him to spend valuable time supporting his family and demonstrate a love for them that was unwavering. His grandchildren were especially dear to him. He was their biggest fan—always encouraging them to excel and never give up.
Rocky had a warm and welcoming personality. He never met a stranger. His infectious smile, laughter, and love for life brightened the lives of those around him, and he was a big brother to many. As the patriarch of the Campbell Family, Rocky leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, kindness, and generosity that will continue to inspire generations, “pieces of the Rock,” to follow. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
Rocky transitioned peacefully in his sleep while surrounded by his loving family on March 26, 2024. He spent his final days doing what he loved, listening to music and watching sports with family.
Rocky leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Chrystal Campbell; six children, Tiffany Kyser, April Kyser, Howard Kyser, Andrew Campbell (Maria), Jeffrey Campbell (Meagan), and Erica Campbell-Green (Aaron); a sister, Joy Cox (Ronnie); a brother, Scott Campbell (Rachael), sixteen grandchildren; four aunts; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family; and friends.
