Rosaura Perez Rivera, known affectionately as "Sari", was born in 1930 in Salinas, Puerto Rico. She was one of 4 children born to Anna Maria Rivera and Juan Perez. Seeking opportunity beyond what their native home had to offer, her family joined nearly 40,000 Puerto Ricans who migrated to New York during the early 1940’s.
