Rosabelle's obituary
Rosabelle Laporte Gurczynski passed away on January 27, 2024. We had just celebrated her 92nd birthday (January 13) and Mom and Dad's 63rd anniversary (January 21) on the 20th, and both were doing well.
Mom was in the million mile club of rosaries. A devout Catholic, she did if we asked her to put you or your family
on the prayer list. She attended mass and prayer groups 2-3 times a week and actively followed her beliefs. She was blessed with health, a wonderful husband, two daughters, Ann Marie and Denise, two sons-in-law, Bret and Ed, and five grandchildren, Andrew, Edward, Kate, Ava, and Ryan. Always the artist, her art presented in many forms- from sewing homecoming dresses, college pillows/bedding, baptismal gowns, kids' clothes, and curtains for every room. In addition, she was skilled in decoupage, upholstery, and furniture staining/repair, and she finally began to paint at the age of 77. I love her work, and my sister Denise and I
have it all over our homes!
In addition, she had another primary art form: gardening. I think she would be called a Master Gardener in today's terms. She spent hours out there mulching and creating a masterpiece in the backyard of exotic and beautiful flowers and the yummiest vegetables and fruits. We ate the fruits of her labor and started down the path of healthy eating because of her.
When she was not busy with Art, Church, or in the Garden, she was actively involved in Warren and Macomb County politics, working on campaigns and heading up my father's successful 8-year run as a Macomb County Commissioner. He could not have done it without her-he said it all the time. Her efforts taught us the importance of the political process, following our beliefs, and working hard to achieve them.
I now realize Mom was not big on voicing her opinion; she just led by example. She helped everyone she could by being strong and working hard. She showed up with love-she gave her time, money (even if she only had a bit), and energy to everyone and to every cause she believed in, and there were a lot.
Mom's toughness and hard work came from being the only girl with five brothers, Roland, Roger, Albert, Philip, and Rosaire, and having an amazing mother and father, Emelia (Meme) and Raymond (Pepe) Laporte. We have 36 first cousins and are so lucky they are in our lives.
Those who knew Mom felt her love and friendship. She was extraordinary. Thank you, God, for Mom.
