Rosa Jean's obituary

Rosa Jean Robinson Tomlinson was born to the late Clinton and Amanda Robinson on October 31, 1939. She was a product of Booker T. Washington High School (1957) where she was able to express her musicianship in the acclaimed marching band.

Rosa completed her Bachelor of Arts degree in Business at Clark College in 1961. While at Clark College, Rosa met the love of her life, Norris Leroy Tomlinson, Jr, and they married December 17, 1961. After graduation, Rosa was an administrator for the Internal Revenue Service. Led by her desire to do more fulfilling work, she obtained her Master of Education degree from Atlanta University and taught high school business courses in the Dekalb County School System for many years. She discovered her true calling as a counselor---guiding students in making important life decisions---and ultimately retired from the school system after serving in that role for over three decades.

Rosa was a lifetime member of Antioch Baptist Church North. She lent her alto voice to multiple choirs and ensembles throughout her life and, as a young adult, would fill in as church pianist when needed. Most notable is her service as the church’s Wedding Coordinator for over 40 years, directing more than 200 wedding events.

Lifelong service to the community was also important to Rosa. Her commitments included: Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority – Kappa Omega Chapter, The Clark Atlanta University (CAU) Guild, The Emeralds Bridge Club, and The Valleydale Community Association.

Rosa Jean Robinson Tomlinson is survived by two children, Norris Leroy Tomlinson, III and Cheryl Tomlinson Twyman; son-in-law, Van Twyman; two grandchildren, Chervell Twyman and Malcolm Twyman; aunt, Dorothy Lankford; goddaughter Tanisha Lankford; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, godchildren, and familial friends.
