It is with great sorrow, the Wizner and Weiberth families announce the passing of our strong, brave and compassionate daughter, sister, mother and aunt, Rosa Gifford (Weiberth), at the age of 67.

Born in Mergelstetten, Heidenheim, Germany in 1955, Rosa was just 1 year old when she came by plane to the US with her mother, Rose Weiberth and brother, Franz Weiberth, reuniting with their father, Franz Weiberth, in New Jersey to start their new life.

Rosa gave birth to her son, Joey, in 1974. She was a devoted mother, friend, confidant, companion, advocate and caregiver. She encouraged his passions for electronics, and they regularly bonded over food and TV. Joey was the apple of her eye, who she loved with all that she was.

Rosa’s nature as an advocate and caregiver became her calling when she began a long career as a registered nurse. Her commitment to the field and her patients was evident when she went back to complete higher education in her 50’s. Rosa’s lively character, no nonsense demeanor and absolute commitment to her job made her loved by colleagues and respected by management of the many hospitals and ORs she worked in. She was particularly proud of leading initiatives to introduce robotic surgical products in several ORs.

Rosa was a beautiful person, both inside and out. She was a woman full of vibrant life and energy. Rosa took absolute pride in her appearance, never leaving the house without her makeup being pristine, and her outfit fit for the catwalk. Her trademark bottle of Riesling and smile followed her to every family gathering and party.

Rosa loved her German heritage and its culture, music and the thrill of driving her dodge charger. She loved reading, day trips to the beach, doting on Joey with McDonalds, and spoiling her nieces and nephews. She bought everyone an enormous amount of Christmas popcorn, loved a devil dog for breakfast and a light and sweet iced coffee from Dunkin’.

Rosa passed on February 25th, 2023, comfortably and surrounded by family at Morristown Medical Center. Her sudden loss is shocking to us all, and leaves a gap in our family that cannot be filled. Rosa is predeceased by her father, Franz Weiberth, and is survived by her mother Rose Weiberth, son Joey Rizzo, brother Franz Weiberth, sister-in-law Carol Weiberth, sister Elizabeth Wizner, brother-in-law Adam Wizner, and her many nieces and nephews who loved her like a second mother - one that took spoiling very seriously.

Rosa’s favorite song, and ringtone for the last 10 years, was “On Top of The World” by Imagine dragons. She said it made her smile no matter how often she listened. The opening lyrics “if you love somebody, you better tell them while they’re here” could not ring more true.

There will be a private cremation with a celebration of life to be organized later this spring, details will be shared when available.

Rest in peace Rosa. You are loved.
