Rory's obituary
Rory Ruhl, a brightly shining beacon whose light was extinguished far too soon, passed away on September 21, 2025. Born on January 21, 1960, Rory lived his life with an infectious vibrancy that deeply touched those around him.
Rory was well-known for his warm, outgoing personality. His friends could always count on his friendly demeanor, his caring spirit, and his vivacious zest for life. His mantra of never giving up served as an inspiration to all who were blessed to know him personally.
A man of many talents, Rory enjoyed a rich and fulfilling life. His prowess on the softball diamond was legendary in the Scotch Plains-Fanwood leagues, where he was a celebrated home run hitter. Yet, his professional life was equally distinguished. A loyal and diligent worker, Rory proudly spent 25 years serving his community at the Town of Westfield Department of Public Works.
However, Rory's most cherished accomplishments were those rooted in love and family. He found tremendous joy in raising his three children and adoring his three grandchildren. Rory was a dedicated husband, loving, and cherishing his wife of 40 years, Donna Dinizo Ruhl.
Rory's legacy will live on through his unwavering determination and his deep love for family and friends. He made the world a better place by simply being in it, and his influence will continue to be felt by those who loved him most.
A Celebration of Life for Rory will be held on October 18, 2025, at 12:00 PM at Fanwood Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, donations are being collected for the "Scotch Plains-Fanwood Scholarship".
Rory's life was a testament to the power of love, resilience, and determination. He will be deeply missed, yet his spirit will continue to inspire those lucky enough to have known him.
