Ronald's obituary
It is with great sadness that we share the passing of our beloved father, Ronald J. Zimmerer, Sr., who was born in Baltimore, Maryland on September 30, 1942, and passed away peacefully in Boca Raton, Florida on the afternoon of January 23, 2025, surrounded by all of his children, Mary, Ron Jr., Chuck and Linda.
He bravely battled dementia, Alzheimer’s, and COPD in his last years. He was cared for with extraordinary love by his son Chuck and Chuck's wife Kathy over the past few years, with whom he lived. They had significant help from Mary, and Ron Jr.
We are forever grateful for these efforts. Despite his challenges, he was always pleasant, joyful, and happy. He very much enjoyed the time he spent with his children, grandchildren, friends, and loved ones.
Dad lived a life of service, dedication, and love. He was dubbed by the newspaper as “a man for all seasons.” He was a proud U.S. Army veteran who served during the Vietnam era. He was a former owner of Johnny’s and Sammy’s restaurant in Salisbury, Maryland, and former President of the Board of Education in Wicomico County, Maryland. He obtained a Juris Doctor and served as a criminal magistrate judge. His career spanned 35 years at Brown and Brown in South Florida, where he retired as Senior Vice President. He was also a scratch golfer.
We are still in the process of making arrangements, but we plan to hold a Celebration of Life in his honor in the future. We will share details once they are finalized.
Though he is no longer with us, Dad’s legacy lives on through his four children—Mary, Ron, Jr., Chuck, and Linda—and his ten grandchildren. We will forever cherish his memory and the love, wisdom, and strength he instilled in us all.
