Ronald's obituary

With hands that laid countless bricks and shaped countless hearts, Ron Walker Sr. lived his life with purpose, humor and love, leaving behind a legacy as rich as the brickwork he mastered.

Born on September 8, 1954, in sunny Jacksonville, Florida, to the late Jake and Marion Walker, Ron was the 11th of 16 siblings. He was raised in a loving family with strong values. Though he moved to Atlanta at a young age, he forever claimed his roots as a proud Floridian. His family has been long-time members of the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ of the Apostolic Faith, where he later met the love of his life, Marlese. His warmth, humor and unwavering faith in the Lord made him a beacon of kindness, always ready with a smile and a story.

Ron’s life was filled with simple joys that reflected his generous spirit. Whether he was buying watermelons to share with his grandchildren or calling his loved ones every day from his trusty flip phone, Ron kept his connections strong and his heart open. He found great joy in visiting the Penrose Diner in Philadelphia with his friends, where laughter and stories flowed freely.

As a dedicated brick-and-block mason, Ron took immense pride in his craft, working tirelessly to create structures that would stand the test of time. His commitment to his work earned him the admiration and respect of all who knew him, but it was his willingness to share his knowledge and uplift others that truly defined him. He also devoted much of his time and resources to beautifying churches across the diocese, always eager to combine his passion for construction with his faith.

Ron’s legacy of love, generosity and faith will continue to inspire all who knew him. His final project, completed at his home church in D.C., stands as a testament to his enduring spirit. On October 14th, 2024, Ron peacefully ascended to the presence of the Lord with “God got me” being among his final words.

He is survived by his wife Marlese, and their children: Rhonda “Pebbles” (Mark), Angela (Herb), Ron Jr. “Jacob” (Taneccia) and Melissa (Anthony). He was also a proud grandfather to Savannah “Georgia,” Samuel “Squirrel,” Kaylee “Mase”, Lyla “Honey,” Karlee “Maggie,” Gabby “Professor,” Alyssa “Scooter Scott,” Kylee “Milly,” Anthony Jr. “Blue Max,” Lil Ron-Ron “Sunny,” Mikayla “Betty”, Amari “Bruno”, as well as *Khaled (Fatiha), Karl, Darien, Naima, Ahmed, Adam, Zayd, Sarah and Kaiyr. He is also survived by a host of siblings, in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

May Ron Walker Sr. rest in eternal peace, and may his memory continue to inspire us all and give us comfort in our hearts.
