Ron's obituary
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Ronald Clifford Skillens, Sr., who left us unexpectedly on April 8, 2023. He was born in Springfield, MO to Milton and Francis Skillens on December 10, 1936. He was the youngest of 3 siblings: Milton Lee Skillens and Betty Jean Skillens. Ron graduated from Topeka High School and attended Washburn University in Topeka, KS and went on to serve in the U.S. Army. Ron lived a rich and fulfilling life, leaving a lasting impact on countless individuals through his fun-loving, caring, and family-centered spirit.
Ron is survived by his son, Ron Skillens, Jr., grandson, Davin Skillens as well as 7 step-children: Gene Bowen, Jr, Lamont Bowen, Curtis Bowen, Percy Bowen, Twila Wright, Cassandra Edwards, and Adrian Bowen and was predeceased by his loving wife, Ruth Skillens. Ron's passion for family and economic development was the foundation of the life he built and the values he instilled in those closest to him.
There were many lessons Ron shared with others, but perhaps the most significant were the importance of pursuing one's dreams and never underestimating one's worth. His greatest accomplishments include being listed in Who's Who of America, a beloved father and mentor, leading a successful janitorial and business supply company, being a real estate developer, a community leader in Kansas and Delaware and a man of God.
A Celebration of Life for Ron Skillens, Sr. will be held on April 29, 2023, at 11am at the Peaceful Rest Funeral Chapel in Topeka, KS. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to "Help with Funeral Expenses" through the following website: https://everloved.com/life-of…
May Ron rest in peace, knowing that his life touched the hearts of countless individuals and that his legacy will live on through the love and lessons he shared with all who were fortunate enough to know him.
