Ron's obituary

Ronald (Ron) Robertson was born in Detroit Michigan, the youngest of three children. His two older sisters, Joan and Karen used to love to play tricks on him. The family moved to Tennessee when he was in high school where his father went to work at Winner Boats in Dickson. Ron graduated in 1967 and went on to college at Maryville College but not before spending the summer as a foreign exchange student in Quito, Equador.

Upon his return, he enlisted in the United States Coast Guard, where he spent 4 years, 3 months and 29 days as a Corpsman. His last duty station was Alameda, California, where he met his life partner, Kathy, who decided to play softball for the women’s Naval Air Rework Facility softball team in February 1975. They moved to Dickson, Tennessee to be married and raise a family, where all three children, Beth, Ryan and Megan were born. Ron taught at Dickson Junior High School, and went back to college, earning his Master’s Degree in Education.

The family moved to Antioch, California in 1984, where Ron taught Spanish and Math at Park and Antioch middle schools. He and Kathy enjoyed playing softball together and going on adventures with their kids, mostly to the coast in the Gualala and Mendocino areas.

One of the happiest periods of time came when they bought a share at R Wild Horse Ranch near Red Bluff. They spent weekends and summers there for many years where the kids swam, played, rode horses and made many lasting friendships.

Ron and Kathy retired to Red Bluff, building a home, sharing their love and enjoying their life together, especially spending time with their grandchildren. Ron was active in church activities, serving as President of the church council, helping to organize meal deliveries at Christmas and other events..

He was diagnosed with renal cell carcinoma in February 2018, losing a kidney to it. He fought this disease for almost 7 years, making quarterly trips to UCSF for scans and other treatments. Ron is survived by his wife Kathy, daughters Beth (Stone) and Megan (Abbate) and son Ryan and grandchildren Marisa, Jaren, Gracee, John and Savannah and great grandsons Reige and Bodhi.

Ron went to his heavenly home on February 7, 2025 where he is no longer in pain or suffering and will see our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He was a loving, caring man, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and patriot who touched many lives.

Funeral service will be held in the Chapel at the Northern California Veterans Cemetery in Igo, California on Monday, February 24, at 11:00 am.  If you are planning on attending, please allow extra time to reach the site as it is some distance from town.  The service will begin promptly at 11:00.
