Ronald's obituary
Ronald "Ron" Olsen, 91, of Stanton, CA, passed away on December 28, 2023, from natural causes. Ron was born on September 4, 1932, to Bill and Genevieve Olsen in Spokane, WA. After graduating from high school in 1951, he went on to enlist in the United States Air Force to join in the Korean War conflict. After serving a 4-year term and learning the aircraft maintenance vocation, he returned to Tinker AFB in Oklahoma City and met the love of his life, Bobbie Jane Moore. A few months later they were wed in Midwest City, OK, a suburb of Oklahoma City on October 22, 1955. Ron was honorably discharged from the USAF in May 1956 and moved his bride to Southern California to start what turned out to be a 35+ year career in the aircraft industry working for General Dynamics, North American Aviation, and Lockheed.
They predominantly lived in Southern California, going on to have four children, Theresa, Deborah, Tony, and Andrew and living in the Antelope Valley. Ron was a force of nature, determined to provide for his family and give them the life he felt they deserved. His family meant more to him than anything else in the world, something he often mentioned. He was unendingly proud of his family and always tried his best to support them. Ron was also passionate about his children and their social, scholastic and sports related activities. He pushed the kids hard to be the best they could be in whatever they pursued, whether in sports, music, art, scouts, philanthropies, and school. Ron loved camping, water skiing and snow skiing with his family, something we all loved for much of our adolescent lives. Ron sacrificed a great deal for his family in order for us to have the numerous summer trips to the many lakes and rivers around us for water skiing and winter trips to Mammoth, Lake Tahoe, and the local mountains near the Antelope Valley for snow skiing.
With his amazing self-taught mechanical skills, Ron had the confidence to do most anything and eventually took up woodworking. It started with personalized gift ideas like napkin holders, cutting boards and hot pads to name just a few, and when he retired, he took up building wood furniture with amazing precision and quality. Some of his furniture was in their various homes for 30+ years. He was a true craftsman.
Ron also had a desire to travel and purchased three different motorhomes along the way to enjoy time with family and friends. Him and his wife Bobbie went to over 40 states in the USA and traveled for months at a time, most of which was after he retired from Lockheed in 1989. He undoubtedly got the ability to travel insane stretches of time from his father who was a long-haul truck driver for 30+ years.
Ron grew to love golfing, hunting, and fishing and elevated his game when he moved to the Treasure Valley area in Idaho where they built a custom home in Meridian, ID in 1993. Ron’s hobbies were right in his backyard, and he flourished in that environment. This is largely why we are honoring and celebrating his life in Boise. Ron wanted nothing more than for us to bring him back to the place he grew to love so fondly.
Anyone who knew Ron knew that he was the most loving and giving husband, father and friend who gave unconditionally without any thought of receiving something in return.
Ron was predeceased by his parents, Bill and Genevieve, his older brother Willard, and his youngest sister Barbara. He is survived by his sister Lucille who will be with us to honor and celebrate his life in Boise, June 2024.
He is also survived by his wife of 68 years, Bobbie Olsen and their children, Theresa, Debbie, Tony and Andrew, their grandchildren, Scott and Brian Kemberling, Jennifer and Jeffery Pina, Devin Eaton and Hannah Krivis, and Patrick and Jonathan Olsen. Additionally, he is survived by his great grandchildren, Ethan and Lexie Kemberling, and Julian and Charlie Pina.
There will be a funeral service on Friday, June 14, 2024, at St. Mary's Catholic Church at 2612 W. State Street, Boise, ID 83702 from 3:00-4:00 PM. Immediately following the funeral, a Celebration of Life will be held at Edgewood Spring Creek Community Center, 653 N. Eagle Road, Eagle, ID 83616 from 4:30-6:30 PM.
