Ron and one of the Urias brothers were going to show Gene and I where to fish sine we had just moved in two doors up from his bay house. They showed us where lap reef was and we drifted and caught a few trout. Gene and I neither one had any boating experience and as they jumped up to come back in I tried to do the same but our boat was a little slower than theirs so I hit the wake from their boat and threw Gene out of the boat just as Ron looked back and saw it. We never lived that one down. We had many more memories at the bay. He will be missed in all he met’s memories.
I am Herb Gill's sister, Crystal. In earlier days, Herb played music with Ronnie McNiel and The Rough Riders. Our parents, my sister Carol and I often went to hear their music, where ever they were playing. It was always great fun and great music. And they remained friends into old age. I know Herb greatly loves his friend Ron, and also loves his family. God bless Ron and all his family and friends. Ron will be greatly missed. We hope to see him in the great by and by.
Lots of memories when we were kids at the coast, singing by the campfire on special occasions, swimming in the pool, hunting Easter eggs, and Christmas gatherings. Kara and Darin - love you both so very much!
My sister (Dolly) and I, along with Robbie Kneupper, spent a lot of time at Floore's and in the McNeil's garage listening to Ronnie's band practices. The Rough Riders also played at my wedding. My husband (John Botter) and I also have a house in Rockport and visited with Ronnie and Linda whenever we could.
So very sorry to hear of Ronnie's passing. Our sympathy to the family.
Captain Ron was a hell of a man and definitely one of a kind. God broke the mold after him. He always treated me like family and I loved him for that. Sure gonna miss him.
