Ronald's obituary

Ronald “Ron” Lee Massey was born May 10, 1947 in Elizabeth, New Jersey. His birth was extra special to his parents Tommie Marie Bostic Massey and Arthur Lee Massey Sr as he came into the world as a fraternal twin. He was raised with love and wisdom by his parents in the small but close knit community of 9th Ave. in Roselle, New Jersey. He attended local schools along with his siblings up through Abraham Clark High School and went on to the Job Corps and learned several vocational skills: barbering and painting.

As a young adult Ronald moved to Baltimore, MD and it was there that his artisan skills were perfected. He became very skillful in painting and home and furniture restoration. He worked in that industry throughout his life. Ronald worked on projects as big as painting bridges within the state, to painting commercial and residential houses. He continuously completed painting and restorative projects for family and friends and most recently he worked on hotel restorations in many states around the US. The greater part of his life was spent transforming spaces. He was dedicated to his work and believed a real man should always be a working man. It was very difficult for Ron to lay down his “toolbelt.”

Ronald was a spiritual man. He was raised in the Christian faith, and later learned about and embraced Islam. In his heart he was just a “believer,” he loved and believed in one God. He was a Massey, always spreading love, helping somebody, and seeding wisdom and counsel to those who would give him ear.

In the late 80s Ronald migrated to Atlanta, GA along with his parents and siblings. The climate was different, the people and culture were different from the north, but the importance of family was the constant. It’s the Massey way, family matters most. Interestingly, Ron had no biological children, yet he “fathered” and supported all his nieces, nephews, and godchildren in a myriad of ways. After years of searching, Ron was blessed to meet the love of his life, Trina Daniels-Massey and cultivate a family of his own. He affectionately embraced, supported, and became Dad to Chris Jackson & Colby Crawford, and Pop pop to all his grands. If you’ve never seen the transformative power of love before you definitely saw it with the love of Ron and Trina. They created a life of love, family, and fun times for all that knew them.

He was preceded in death by his parents Arthur Lee Massey Sr & Tommie Marie Bostic Massey, his twin brother Roland Frank Massey, his brother Arthur Lee Massey Jr., and his sister Janet Marie (Massey) Orokunle. Leaving to cherish the loving memories are, his precious wife Trina Daniels-Massey, sons: Chris & Colby, 8 grandchildren; dearest baby sister Nanette “Ne” (Massey) Enabulele, sister in-law Gail Mason-Massey, his God-son Alan Blocker, God-daughter Toccora Nesbitt, God-daughter Gina Arnold Billingsley, and all his nieces and nephews of whom he lovingly served “like a father”. Additionally he leaves the “Massey Strong” clan of Aunts (Hazel Walker, Carolyn Williams, Arlene Carmichael, & Helen Boyd); hosts of cousins and extended family; beloved mother-in-law Vernice Baker and a host of loving in-laws and friends. He loved well and he was loved by many.
