Ronald's obituary

Ronald Leroy Jones, 72, passed away on May 15, 2025, at the Richard Campbell Veterans Home in Anderson, South Carolina. Born on February 11, 1953, in Des Moines, Iowa, to the late Alfred Jones and Lois Miller Jones. He graduated from Moultrie High School in Mt. Pleasant, SC. Shortly after graduation, Ronald answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Coast Guard. From 1972 to 1976, he served with dedication and honor during a pivotal time in American maritime history.

Following his military service, Ronald worked at Hiway Marine on Folly Road pursuing his love for mechanics and the open water. Later he applied his mechanical talents as a maintenance mechanic for the Palm Beach County Fire Department. His love of the water drew him back where he worked as a boat captain aboard several tugboats, the Alabama Princess and then the Tahoe Queen. While aboard the Tahoe Queen, he performed more than 200 wedding ceremonies. His career also included time as a truck driver.

Known to his friends and family as Captain Ron! He had a remarkable ability to fix or create just about anything. Whether it was repairing complex machinery or crafting something from scratch, he approached every task with ingenuity and precision. This talent was not only a professional asset but also a personal hallmark that left a lasting impression on family and friends alike.

A man of many interests, Ronald held a passion for aviation and was also a pilot and instructor—a pursuit that spoke to his adventurous spirit and technical acumen.

He is survived by his daughter's Sara Alyson Kelley (Marlin) and Lynsey Zieman, his son's Cameron Jones (Coleen) and Brett Wiggins (Carlos), his sister Jaynie Arakaki (Roy), brother's David Jones (Lynn), and Kevin Jones (Florinda) and several grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother Jon Jones (Beverly).

There will be no service.
