Ronald's obituary

Ronald (Ron) Keith Mohr was born to Edward and Ruby Mohr on February 27, 1941 in Wray, CO. He is survived by his brother Glenn Mohr (wife Margaret) of Arvada, CO and his sister Jackie Mohr of Evergreen, CO. He married his best friend Marilyn Wyatt on August 18, 1961 at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in Denver, Colorado. Marilyn and Ron have two children; Richard Mohr and Kristine Gewin. Richard and his wife Jackie live in Evergreen, CO and have three children; Isabella of New York City, Isaac of Basalt, CO, and Ian of Arvada, CO. Kristine and her husband Brian Gewin have three children; Hayden, Harper and Elle and all reside in Lakewood, CO.

Ron had a long career in education in Colorado. He attended the University of Denver where he earned a degree in Education and a Masters in Counseling. He earned a 2nd Masters in School Administration from the University of Northern Colorado. Ron worked as a teacher, administrator, and a principal for the Denver Public School System. He was also a principal for several years in the Jefferson County School System. He was highly regarded by his fellow educators and students.

Another legacy Ron left was his contribution to the credit union movement. Ron was a member of Denver Public Schools Credit Union and gave back by volunteering on the Supervisory Committee and the Board of Directors. While serving as the Board Chairman, Ron helped negotiate a merger with Safeway Employees Credit Union and helped oversee a massive period of growth as well as a re-brand where the organization became Westerra Credit Union.

Ron loved working with his hands and spent much of his time being creative. Ron made silver jewelry, restored and maintained several Volkswagen Beetles, and built and maintained several extra rooms in his homes in Denver, Evergreen and Fredericksburg. His real love was working with wood. He was a gifted carver and sculpted numerous beautiful pieces. He was a brilliant furniture maker - constructing tables, cabinets, stools, end tables, and more. He was an artistic genius who was skilled with a lathe, spinning incredible bowls, lamps and dishes. People were honored to be gifted a “Ron Bowl.”

Ron loved his family and friends and enjoyed living in both Texas and Colorado. He loved traveling back and forth and had fun traveling in general. He and Marilyn visited Ireland, Spain, England, Holland, Italy, Wales, Scotland, France, Switzerland, Germany, and Belgium. He also traveled extensively throughout North America including many road trips throughout the United States Southwest and multiple vacations in Canada. He loved Hawaii and Mexico where he enjoyed scuba diving and exploring. Ron, also a gifted athlete; enjoyed golf, skiing, pickleball, coaching/encouraging others and he played tennis well into his 80s.

Ron was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, brother-in-law, and friend. He lived every moment to its fullest and was truly an inspiration, bringing a smile to all those around him.

There will be a Celebration of Life honoring Ron on September 13th at 10:30am at Congregation Beth Evergreen located at 2981 Bergen Peak Dr., Evergreen, CO. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Rons name to either the Alzheimer’s Association or the Wounded Warriors Project.
