Ronald's obituary

Ronald Wayne Hughes, of Seattle, died on Sunday, September 17, 2023. He was 70 years of age.

Ron was born on March 4, 1953 in Seattle, Washington, the son of Shirley Bonita Jones, grandson of Neva Chlorine Abrahamsen. He was raised in the greater Seattle area and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1971. He began truck driving at 19 years old, and was an active member of the Teamsters Union for 30 years.

Ron grew up playing baseball, and was an avid sports fan (especially football). He spent many years coaching his sons in every sport of every season. If he wasn’t coaching, you could hear him yelling from the sidelines and video taping every moment. Ron was a collector of antiques, from cars to victrola, from camera to player piano. He was a follower of only the best music…James Brown, Ray Charles, Dinah Washington, Dionne Warwick…all things blues and jazz, well, only the good stuff; loved to sing, loved to dance. For twenty-five years, he and his wife Sue, traveled to Cabo San Lucas with as many companions as he could gather, befriending locals and receiving personal invitations to family dinners, for what he may refer to as “wundo-goodie” (aka: delicious food). If you knew Ron, he has invited you to Cabo, and shared every reason why he knew you would love it. Ron loved the city of Renton and the connections he made there. Following retirement, you could find him perched on the stoop of a local coffee shop: Jet City, Liberty Cafe, Common Ground (though that may have been for the cupcakes). His greatest joy was to have his home filled with family, listening to all of his children and grandchildren gathered together laughing, singing and having fun.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Susan K. (Rankins) Hughes, his children: Monica L. (Hughes) Bueno and her husband Mathew C. Bueno, Casey D. M. Hughes and is wife Gabriella (Martinez) Hughes, Coleman S. J. McLaren and his wife Kaisha A. (Basquette) McLaren, Marissa E. Hughes, Miya K. (Hughes) Rudolph and her husband Shawn M. Rudolph; and his 11 grandchildren: Trey, Kaiah, Cameron, Frances, Rowan, Claire, Nancia, Miles, Kailey, Neva, and Elizabeth.

A viewing, open to all friends and family, will be held 2:00-5:00 P.M. Tuesday, September 19, 2023, at Flintoft’s Issaquah Funeral Home 540 E Sunset Way, Issaquah, WA 98027. #425-392-6444
