From our dear friend Leftie Vaughn.

I only spent a short time with Ron on four or five occasions, but those occasions were always a treat. Several strong impressions jumped out:

1. Ron was a sweetheart.

2. Ron had a gruff exterior that was easily penetrated to reveal a heart of gold.

3. Ron was devoted to his family, supportive and understanding of their wild and crazy passions, like Democratic politics.

5. Ron did yeoman’s service, chauffeuring Pat, Kelly and their friends, including me, to civic events and rally’s.

6. Ron was True Blue, a man who could be relied upon through thick and thin.

7. Ron was a patriot, serving his country in the Navy and afterwards as a model citizen.

8. He was valiant and courageous, carrying on nobly through medical setbacks and surprises.

Ron was the original courageous, conscientious, competent, can-do Canady,

loved by all who met him and who are friends of Pat, Kelly and Brian.

It was an honor and pleasure to know him.

We have so many wonderful memories of times spent in Civano with Ron and Pat.  I’d like to list just a few:

- many happy hours and Halloweens spent on your front porch,

- road trips to the Grand Canyon, Sedona, Bisbee, Gold Canyon and your visit to Minnesota

- a visit to Tombstone, with Ron acting as tour guide and I dressed in cowboy drag

- Ron and Jim looking for petroglyphs in Sedona

- Valentine’s Day lunches at Arizona Inn, Hacienda del Sol, and Vivace

- countless Farkle games

- working on the Rotunda committee, getting the kitchen built, and shopping trips to furnish the place

Ron was truly a one of a kind man- a curmudgeon with a heart of gold.  He will live in our hearts forever!

Ron Canady

We lived next door to the Canady’s in our cute Tuscon, Civano home and they were the best neighbor’s ever. At night the four of us would sit outside, drink wine and talk to each other and all the neighbor’s walking down the street. We loved both Ron and Pat. Ron was such an easy going guy to be around and such a hard worker. I was always amazed that he continued to work way past retirement. When he was around you could always find him at morning coffee in the clubhouse with a good story to tell.

One of our favorite memories was a little two day trip we took with Ron and Pat to several different ghost towns and to Tombstone. Ron had wonderful stories and history about every place and we had such joy just being together and laughing.

We cherish that period of time we had together and all the fun activities we were a part of. Ron was truly one of our all-time favorite people to be around.

We miss him here at Coffee. His witty comments always struck a note. We miss you Ron.
Ron was our best friend for almost 20 years in Civano and we miss him dearly. His most salient personality trait was that he was always available to help a friend without question. He could never say no if you needed a hand. I was the beneficiary of his good will many, many times. He was an integral part of a small group close friends that would occasionally vacation together. Great memories, wonderful trips to Sedona, Bisbee and other nearby locations. One small anecdote that comes to mind is on a trip to Bisbee, Arizona along with other dear mutual friends we stayed at the Schoolhouse Inn. This was an old beautiful building/house no TV in the rooms. Our bedroom was located adjacent to Ron and Pat’s room and we still recall with great affection that we were lulled to sleep every night listening to Ron snoring. We are fortunate and comforted having had Ron in our lives. He was the best friend most would like to have. Miss you Ronnie…

I met Ron 20 years ago when the Civano coffee group was being formed. Pat volunteered Ron to be the  first host. Ron & I discovered we both had telephone backgrounds. I was a Lineman & Ron drove around in a truck. When Ron & I started replacing burned out lights on the Civano paths, we’d finish by going to Jason’s for a Sonoran Hotdog. The first bite was into to the bacon wrapped jalapeño pepper, sometimes they were good and other times Ron would look at me with tears in his eyes and say “Dam that was HOT.”     DAM, I MISS YOU BUD!

Ron & I could make fun of anything, anybody and ourselves. Pat always said, “They are brothers from another Mother”, because they were so much alike. Ron & Pat are very close friends that have touched OUR HEARTS in many ways. WE MISS YOU BOTH.  Tom & Kay

from Melanie Emmerson:

Amazing women, friends and fellow activists…please accept my sincerest condolences on Ron’s passing. May he always be remembered as the loving and dedicated father, husband, grandfather that he was, and as the stanch advocate for what’s right. His tough exterior but sweet and caring true nature will always stay with me…he always reminded me very much of my own dad ❤️ May his memory be inscribed for a blessing in the Book of Life. All my love to you both and to your entire family.  M

Ron and Tom Wagner were the comedy team of the Civano's Men's Coffee.

Ron's wonderful sarcasm was always a morning highlight.

He was such a great asset to the Civano community with his fix it skills.

He is missed by all.  RIP
