Ronald's obituary

Ronald Bonner made his grand entrance into this world with his twin, Donald (much to his mother Lucy’s delight), on March 15, 1960, in Shreveport, LA. With oldest brother Raymond (Anthony) and Sister Stacia already on board, Mom was delighted to have help with the healthy twin boys.

Family meant everything to Ron, who was a very loving and devoted father to his two children, Brandon Paul & Brandy Nicole, with his former wife, Vanessa, and was tremendously proud of their accomplishments. Brandon was recently named principal of Charles Burke Elementary, and Brandy is a Physician Assistant in Raleigh, NC, with a focus on pediatrics. Ron was a doting grandfather to granddaughter Nyla Kate, who was his little shadow and hangout buddy, and younger granddaughter Finleigh, who dearly loved their Papa. He always regularly checked in on his mother, Lucy, and his siblings, Stacia, Donald, Tricia, and Bruce, as well as many other family and friends, to ensure that everyone was OK. He leaves a legacy of love and will be deeply missed. Sadly, Ron passed away on Monday, April 14, 2025, in Lafayette after an extended illness.

After graduating from CE Byrd High School in 1978, Ronald was proud to serve as a Chevron employee for forty-three years and celebrated his retirement on his 65th birthday. Outside of work, he found joy in spending time at the shooting range and took great pride in working with his hands and fixing literally anything broken you brought to him. His passion for collecting Coca-Cola memorabilia led to an impressive collection of nearly 1,000 bottles and four working Coca-Cola machines, which were proudly featured in the “Collector’s Corner” at the World of Coca-Cola in Atlanta, Georgia.

If you were fortunate enough to be considered a friend of Ron, then you understood the saying that “A friend in need is a friend indeed." Ron raised the bar regarding loyal friendships and was also a faithful community member who always went the extra mile to ensure he could lend a helping hand wherever needed, never expecting anything in return. He was a faithful founding member of the Acadiana Church of Christ and took great joy in witnessing the church family continue to grow.

Ron will be missed by his extended Voss family, who cherished his companionship, wise advice, humor, and passion. His memory is imprinted in their hearts, and the joy he brought their family will remain forever for Priscilla, Andy, Terri, Zachary, Michelle, the grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He is preceded by his close friend, Larry Voss.

Ronald is survived by his mother, Lucy Mae Bonner, of Coushatta, LA; his son, Brandon Paul Bonner, of Lafayette, LA; his daughter, Brandy Nicole Bonner, Raleigh, NC; his two brothers, Donald Bonner and his wife, Luz Bonner, of Bensalem, PA and Bruce Eric Bonner, of Dallas, TX; his two sisters, Stacia D. Foote and her husband, Stan, of Euless, TX and Patricia Bonner, of Humble, TX; his two grandchildren, Nyla Kate Bonner and Finleigh Vy Thuy Bonner, both of Lafayette, LA and numerous dear nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his brother, Raymond Anthony Sr., and his nephew, Raymond Anthony Jr. (Tony).

Honored to serve as Pallbearers: Murphy Aucoin, Austin Banks, Pat Magee, Ronnie Shanklin, Jeremy Tezeno, Zack Voss.

Honorary Bearers will be: Donald Bonner, Bruce Bonner,

The family wishes to thank the staff of the ICU Ward of Ochsner Lafayette General Hospital, Lafayette, for the compassionate care given to Ronald and his family.
