Ronald's obituary
Ronald “Ron” Ashby, of Wilmington, North Carolina passed away peacefully on October 17, 2023 at the age of 75. Ron was born in 1948 in Virginia to Cecil and Edna Ashby.
Ron started working at Boddie-Noell Enterprises when he was just 16 years old, with one goal in mind… To earn enough money to get to the beach. He was blessed to continue his career experiencing many different fields within the company. He most enjoyed his time in sports marketing and working directly with the ACC schools until the day of his retirement.
In 2012, Ron and his wife, Cricket, left Rocky Mount, North Carolina where they lived for 23 years to move to the beach in Wilmington, North Carolina. He loved playing tennis and golf until his health declined. He cherished spending time and being silly with his youngest grandson, Beckett, who he endearingly called his “little buddy”, that loved his Papa.
Ron had a dry sense of humor and if you knew him well, you got to experience his playful side. He loved being a jokester and boy was he good at it.
Our Lord and Savior welcomed Ron home to be reunited in heaven with his parents, Cecil and Edna, his sister Terri, brother Rick and his beloved lab, Dixie girl.
Ron is survived by the best wife and caregiver he could’ve asked for of 45 years, Cricket Ashby; his daughters, Tracy, and Michelle, Son Will (Amber); his brother Steve, his brother-in-law, Rick Gamble; his grandchildren, Daleigh, Hunter, and Beckett; many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Ron’s lasting impact was donating his body to ECU Brody School of Medicine.
A celebration of life is being planned for the near future in Rocky Mount, NC.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggest a plant or tree be planted in his memory.
Charitable donation suggestions are:
American Heart Association
American Diabetes Association
Alzheimer’s Association
Mental Health Collaborative
Or a charity of your choice.
