Ronald's obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a beloved family man, Ronald Brian Ahrens. Born on August 28, 1949, Ron left us way too soon on May 27, 2024 after an eight month battle with bladder cancer.  Known for his warm personality, strong faith, and peace-making nature, Ron left a profound impact on everyone who knew him.

Ron leaves behind his devoted wife, Mary Ann Ahrens, whom he married in 1976, and their two daughters, Heather Treat and Kelly Maldonado. He was a proud grandfather to Brianna Ahrens, Brietta and Tori Maldonado, Jessica and Stephanie Kochendoerfer, Michael and Benjamin Treat and a great grandfather to Noah Maldonado.  His older brother, Ronald Walter, also survives him. He is preceded in death by his mother, Audrey Walter; step father, Russell Walter; father, John Ahrens, and sisters, Diane Leitch and Linda Risso.

Ron graduated high school from Baltimore Polytechnic Institute in 1967. He joined the Air National Guard and proudly served his country for 20 years. He relocated to Anaheim, CA in 1978 and subsequently moved to Huntington Beach, CA in 1987.   His home was always filled with laughter and love and was open and inviting to everyone.  He attended First Christian Church of Huntington Beach where he was baptized in the early 1990’s but after Covid, was a frequent attendee at Calvary Chapel Chino Hills.  He was also a long time member of Bible Study Fellowship International, where he deepened his faith and cemented his walk with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  His devotion was such that he was privileged to baptize his daughter, Kelly, his sister, Diane Leitch, as well as his son-in-law, Joey Maldonado.  He considered those baptisms one of his greatest accomplishments in his life.  Bringing people to Jesus was very important to Ron and he tried to model his Christian walk after Christ so others would follow.

Ron found joy in the simple pleasures of life.  He loved playing poker every chance he got, watching all kinds of sports, and spending time with family and friends.  His favorite color was teal, a hue that reflected his kind, humble, generous, and honest personality. He lived by the principles of not sweating the small stuff and forgiving easily; lessons he frequently shared with those around him.

Ron left behind a legacy of love and faith. His loss is deeply felt by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him, yet we find solace in knowing he is at peace with his Savior, Jesus. His memory lives on in the hearts of his loved ones who will miss him terribly.  Even in his absence, his teachings continue to guide us. His humility, faith, smile and love will never be forgotten.
