Romeo's obituary

Romeo Ferrer was born on April 13, 1949, in Manaoag, Pangasinan, as the third oldest of nine children. From a young age, he worked alongside his family on their tobacco plantation and helped care for farm animals. Romeo also spent time with his uncle and aunt in Sablayan, Mindoro, cultivating rice fields.

At 18, Romeo moved to Manila to begin his career, initially working as a security guard and draftsman. He later transitioned to a role as an Air Traffic Controller in Cebu City. In the 1980s, Romeo, his wife Eleanor, and his two children, Jennifer and Michael, immigrated to the United States in search of greater opportunities.

In the U.S., Romeo worked as an Assistant Civil Engineer for the City of Seattle, while also taking on side jobs as a marine painter and contractor. He eventually became a vendor at a local Farmer's Market in the Seattle area, where he enjoyed engaging with the community. Romeo’s life was defined by hard work, commitment, and an unwavering love for his family.

Outside of his professional career, Romeo had a deep passion for horse racing, "playing the piano", cooking, and watching football, often celebrating with an ice-cold beer. His infectious smile and energy brightened every room, bringing joy to those around him. In 1986, Romeo and Eleanor welcomed their third child, Beverly. They lived in Boulevard Park for nearly 20 years before purchasing a farm in Yakima in 2006, where they grew vegetables and raised chickens, goats, and cows.

Above all, Romeo valued family and connection. In 2015, he initiated an annual Thanksgiving reunion to emphasize the importance of spending time with loved ones and strengthening family bonds. He was a firm believer in togetherness, encouraging others to view family as not only a source of love and compassion, but also as a support system during times of sorrow. Romeo's legacy of love, care, and devotion will continue to inspire his family for generations to come.

In 2003, Romeo was diagnosed with a tumor in his right kidney. After his doctors raised concerns about cancer, he made the decision to undergo surgery. Ten years later, in 2013, he was diagnosed with COPD and right lung cancer, leading to numerous treatments, including chemotherapy and immunotherapy. Throughout his battle, Romeo remained a fighter, never giving up.

Romeo passed away peacefully at his home in Kent, WA, on November 30, 2024. He is survived by his wife, Eleanor Ragual Ferrer, and his three children, Jennifer, Michael, and Beverly. He is now reunited in spirit with his parents, Dionisia and Quintin Ferrer.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages friends and loved ones to connect with their own families and offer support to those who are grieving. For those wishing to help, donations to assist with medical bills and funeral expenses are gratefully accepted.
