Romelle's obituary

Romelle Maureen Schoff, 90, of Fishers, Indiana, passed away peacefully on February 26, 2026, with her three beloved children at her side—the greatest joy of her life.

Born on June 14, 1935, in San Pierre, Indiana, Romelle was the daughter of Otto and Bernice Cesal. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Lon Cesal; and her beloved husband of 63 years, Edward “Ed” Schoff.

Romelle and Ed shared a beautiful life built on love, family, and partnership. Ed, a high school teacher and proud United States Air Force veteran, was the love of her life. Together they raised a devoted family and created a lifetime of memories. They traveled extensively, visiting all 50 states as well as Australia, Canada, Ireland, and Mexico. Their adventures became treasured stories that will live on for generations.

Romelle worked for many years as the payroll administrator for Arnett Clinic in Lafayette, Indiana. She was respected for her professionalism, integrity, and strong work ethic, earning the trust and appreciation of colleagues throughout her career.

Deeply invested in her children’s lives and her community, Romelle served as a Girl Scout leader, President of the Lafayette Swim Club, and President of the Vinton PTA. In each role, she generously devoted her time and energy, fostering a welcoming spirit, and forming lasting friendships. Whether organizing events or cheering her children from the sidelines, she created connection and community wherever she served. She also found joy outdoors—gardening and fishing were among her favorite peaceful pastimes.

Romelle and Ed later made their home on the shores of Lake Lemon in Unionville, Indiana, where they embraced lake life and an active social circle. They especially cherished their involvement with the Bucks and Does Square Dance Club. The fellowship and friendships they built there remained a meaningful part of her life.

Her unwavering Christian faith was the foundation of who she was. It guided her decisions, strengthened her through life’s challenges, and shaped the grace and kindness she extended to others. She and Ed were devoted members of Cottonwood Church in Morgantown, Indiana, where they built lasting relationships rooted in faith.

Romelle is survived by her three children: Dennis Schoff; Dianne (Drew) Powers; and Donna Varda.

Dennis is the widower of the late Nina Sorensen and father of two daughters, Kathryn “Kat” Schoff (Antonius Hjartarson) and Margaret “Maggie” Schoff. Kat and Antonius are the parents of Romelle’s great-granddaughter, Nina Ros Antoniusdotter.

Dianne, married to Drew Powers since 2016, has two children: Lindsey (Ross) Bennett and Austin (Julie) York. Lindsey and Ross are the parents of Miles Bennett and Brooke Bennett. Austin and Julie are the parents of Ada York, Fin York, and Margot Romelle York, who proudly carries her great-grandmother’s name.

Donna is the mother of nine children: Chris (Arie Lainee) Hartman, Jon (Carly) Hartman, Mitchell (Haley) Varda, Brianna (Oliver Katz) Varda, Claire (Joseph Bernhardt) Varda, Jacob Varda, Francia Varda, Sophie Varda, and Jamie Varda. Mitchell and Haley are the parents of Romelle’s great-granddaughter, Presley Varda.

Romelle will be remembered for her steadfast faith, her deep devotion to family, her strength through life’s challenges, her quick wit and playful sense of humor, and the quiet kindness she showed to everyone she met. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were her pride and purpose, and through them her legacy of love, faith, and joy will continue.

Family and friends will gather on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at CrossRoads Church at Westfield, 19201 Grassy Branch Road, Westfield, Indiana, with the funeral service beginning at 1:00 p.m.

Interment will take place at the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Madison, Indiana, where she will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband, Ed.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the IU Health Joe & Shelly Schwarz Cancer Center at IU Health North Hospital, 11645 Illinois Street, Carmel, Indiana, in honor of Romelle’s life.
