RJ's obituary
On Friday, March 14th at 1:30pm, RJ Savoie lost his battle with cancer and passed peacefully with his family surrounding him.
RJ Savoie was born on January 7th, 1965, as one of a set of twins in White Sands, New Mexico, to Rolland “Sonny” and Mary Jo Savoie. Unfortunately, his twin brother did not survive. He was the third of what would eventually be four children: Carol, Debra, and Christine. His father would later re-marry Ester Savoie and she would give him three more siblings: Iris, Annette, and Joseph. His sister, Christine, would eventually give him a lifelong brother, Robert Knop. He spent his early years in Southern California, where he met the love of his life, Lori Cook. When he told the story of how they met, he stated, “I knew I was going to marry her the moment I met her”. They started their family as soon as they could. Bringing four perfect children into the world: Joey, Dustin, Alexa, and Kami. Starting in California and eventually moving to Nevada.
RJ could not decide what he wanted to be when he grew up, so he chose everything. He started the Nevada chapter as a manager for Rogers Jewelers. He eventually found a home with the Nevada State Corrections as a corrections officer. After 10 years of service, he decided to follow his dream of owning a wildland firefighting company, American Wildland LLC. One of his crowning moments was the time he spent serving in New Orleans supporting the Hurricane Katrina relief efforts. He decided to stay closer to home by starting his career in Industrial Safety management. Working for Cyanco, Great Basin Gold, Hycroft, Phoenix Industrial, and H&T, Nevada. RJ never said no to an opportunity to further his career, help his community, or be there for a friend (or stranger). Over the years, he was a part of many volunteer firefighting, emergency response, or community involvement agencies. RJ just loved people.
RJ had many professional achievements in his life, but none would mean more than the titles he earned later in life, Rampa and PeePaw. He had been trained by loving, caring, and spoiling so many other children that he was ready for the upgrade from Ice Cream RJ to Grandpa. It is widely known that his Grandpa era was the best era of his life.
RJ was preceded in death by his Son Dustin Savoie, twin brother, Sister-in-Law Crystal Cook, Father-in-Law Gilbert Cook, Father Sonny Savoie, and Mother Mary Jo Savoie.
He is survived by his wife Lori Savoie, Son Joey Savoie, Daughter-in-Law Jadee Savoie, Daughter Alexa Kerr, Son-in-Law Ian Kerr, Daughter Kami Alt, Son-in-Law Chaz Alt. As well as the Grandchildren: Aila, Maia, Miles, Rowan, and Maverick.
RJ has requested to be cremated and ashes spread by his family.
