Rolando's obituary
Rolando "Rolly" Solis Mercado, a proud architect, loving husband, devoted father and grandfather, passed away peacefully on February 23, 2026, after a courageous battle with kidney disease. He was 81 years old.
Rolando was born on September 1, 1944, in Batangas, Philippines, to Mariano and Marieta Mercado. From a young age, he showed determination and creativity that would later guide him to a respected career in architecture. He took great pride in his work and the structures he helped design, leaving behind a legacy of dedication, craftsmanship and vision.
Above all, Rolando cherished his family. He was the beloved husband of Lourdes (De La Rosa), with whom he shared a lifetime of love and partnership. He was a devoted father to Lorraine (Jason) and Ronald, and a proud grandfather to Cynthia (Stefan), Richard (Sara), Leilani (Liam) and Jake. His family was his greatest joy and he treasured every moment spent with them.
Rolando had a bright, witty personality that could light up any room. He was known for his quick humour, playful jokes and the warmth he brought to every gathering. Music was one of his great passions. He played the piano and was the bass player in a band in the Philippines in his younger years. At family gatherings, he was often the one with the guitar in hand, happily singing and entertaining everyone around him. His unforgettable Elvis-style voice often became the highlight of celebrations. Those joyful moments filled with laughter, music and song will be cherished forever and deeply missed by all who knew him.
Rolando is survived by his beloved wife, Lourdes; his children, Lorraine (Jason) and Ronald; his grandchildren, Cynthia (Stefan), Richard (Sara), Leilani (Liam) and Jake; and his siblings, Flordeliza, Pacita, Corazon and Rodolfo. He now joins his beloved siblings Susana, Adelina, Teresita and Reynaldo who passed before him.
Rolando’s legacy lives on in the family he loved deeply, the memories he created, and the music and laughter he shared with everyone around him. He will be dearly missed and forever remembered.
