Roger's obituary

Roger Wayne Holloway died peacefully in his sleep early morning on November 22nd at the age of 82.

His loving wife of 60 years, his two daughters, four granddaughters, three great-grandsons, and his two sons-in-law will miss his presence immensely.

Roger was born in a small home on 6th avenue in Neptune and died really just down the street from there at the nursing home where he was being cared for. Before graduating from what is now the Old Neptune High School, Roger found his calling in life and became one of Jehovah's Witnesses. Following in the footsteps of several generations of Holloway’s, he became a bricklayer and eventually grew his skill until he achieved a master level in his field. Roger met the girl of his dreams "Lois" and they were married in August of 1959. The two daughters he loved so much eventually appeared and Roger worked hard to not only provide for his family, but to give them a rich and interesting childhood. Roger loved to experience new things and most of all to travel! This was a constant theme throughout his entire life. When not working as a mason, he would pack up the car, and Lois, Myra, and Eva would head out west for some amazing trips that left indelibly cherished memories that last a lifetime. Roger loved taking his family to the many majestic National Parks all around the nation. In fact, he took them all to every state in the union. How many people can say that they traveled to all 50 states including Alaska and Hawaii!

Another noteworthy trait of his was his love to talk to people. You could not go literally anywhere without seeing him get into a friendly conversation with whoever was with him. Roger not only loved talking with new people, they seemed to always respond to his cheerful and kind manner so positively. He used that gift his whole life in partaking in the ministry he loved so much. Telling people about the hope he found in the Bible was a central core to who he was.

Roger was able to meld three things he loved, his skill as a mason, his love for people, and his desire to travel, by being part of a world wide building work. Roger was active in helping build places of worship as well as branch facilities here in the US and in many countries abroad. Roger worked on buildings and complexes here in NJ, NY, as well as in 13 countries. Roger was non-stop, often seeming like a force of nature.

He was the kind of guy who made a lasting impression. The people who knew him will remember many of his traits and characteristics. Anyone who walked with Roger door-to-door will remember that keeping up was a challenge. Or how he was always focused on fairness and justice but always in a kind manner. He loved joking around with people, especially the guys he worked with. He was always mindful of visiting those who were shut-ins, or who had experienced a loss, or just needed a visit and a few kind words.

As his condition slowly robbed him of his memory, his loving wife and his two daughters were a constant presence at his side making sure he was well cared for and loved. Visits from his grand-daughters always brought a smile to his face. Roger was well loved, and what better legacy could anyone ask for.

We will all miss him, his silver hair, and that Roger smile.

A memorial service is planned to take place at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness on Saturday December 8th at 3:00 PM. The Address is 2900 W Bangs Ave, Neptune City, NJ 07753. All are welcomed.
