Roger Jay LeGrande, age 72, of Soquel, California, passed away suddenly on February 24, following a stroke. He was well cared for by the highly trained medical staff at Stanford Hospital, Neuro-ICU. He was surrounded by his loving family at the time of his passing.

Roger was born on June 14, 1951, in Louisville, Kentucky. The LeGrande family moved to Illinois when he was a baby, followed by moves to Michigan and Georgia, prior to relocating to San Mateo, California when Roger was 16. Roger graduated from Aragon High School before attending San Jose State University, earning his B.A. in Music and Fine Arts.

Roger is predeceased by his parents Mary Catherine and Chester LeGrande. He is survived by his wife, Carol LeGrande; his daughter, Colette Romero; sons Andrew and Jeffrey LeGrande; and four grandchildren, Matthew, Maya, Desmond, and Ella. He also leaves behind his siblings, Judy Hanlon, Doug LeGrande and Mary Lou Field.

After graduation, Roger built his career in the construction industry. He worked his way up from sawyer; to foreman; and then estimator, before retiring.

Roger had a great love of the outdoors. Fishing, camping, and hiking brought him great joy and peace. He used his expertise in fly fishing to write articles that were published in fishing magazines.

Roger was an accomplished musician. Not only did he play guitar but also piano, trumpet and ukelele. He was the frontman for his own band, the Flashbacks. He loved seeing live music and went to countless shows in San Francisco in the late 60’s.

He also was an amazing cook and loved cooking for others. Tennis was a huge part of his life and he found a wonderful sense of community at Imperial Courts where he had many long-lasting friendships.

Roger was full of charisma and had an incredible sense of humor. He had a sharp wit and was a captivating storyteller. He made a lasting impression on everyone he met and will be dearly missed.
