Roger's obituary

Roger Rene Lachapelle, an Air Force veteran of the Korean War and a very handsome man, peacefully passed away on January 29, 2019 in Jacksonville, FL due to living a full and happy life.

Roger was born on February 28, 1935 in Woonsocket, Rhode Island, but his life truly began on a day in 1953 when he spotted a gorgeous young woman through the window of a basement tenement apartment and confidently announced to a friend that he was going to marry her. The girl inside, Shirley Eva Allarie, closed the curtains on Roger and married him three years later.

Though never a man of much means, Roger possessed an endless capacity for love, a keen intellect, and a wry sense of humor that kept Shirley laughing for 62 years. The sweethearts enjoyed entertaining friends, raised two boys together, and later spent their time garage sale shopping for their five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, who often found piles of gifts taller than them waiting at their grandparents' house on Christmas Eve.

Roger is survived by his wife, Shirley; his sons, Roger and William; his doting daughter-in-law, Lubov; his grandchildren, Bryan, Stephanie, Nikita, Mikhail, and Marcel; his great-grandchildren, Evelyn and Atticus; his sisters, Rita Benoit and Lillian Glaude; and the sister-in-law he liked best, Lorraine Benoit. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Hermine and Joseph Lachapelle, his brother, George Lachapelle, and his brother-in-laws, Marcel Glaude, Curly Benoit, and Eddie Benoit.

Graveside services with full military honors will be held at Jacksonville National Cemetery in Jacksonville, FL on Friday, February 22, 2019 at 2pm.
