Roger's obituary
Roger I. Thompson, age 65, of Forest, WI and formerly of Ridgeland, passed away April 3, 2026 at Regions Hospital in St. Paul, MN after several years of heart‑related health challenges.
Roger was born to Irvin & Lillian Thompson in Rice Lake, WI on January 8, 1961. He was welcomed by four older sisters, but later became big brother himself to a brother and sister. He was baptized and confirmed at New Hope Lutheran Church - Pine Creek in rural Ridgeland, WI; and was a 1980 graduate of Barron High School.
Surviving, in addition to his many friends and acquaintances, are six siblings: Kathy Rucker (Wylie), Christy Aasen, Vicki Davis (Dave Retz), Sandy Roe, Greg Thompson and Amy Erickson (Brent); dozens of nieces and nephews; and other extended family. Preceding Roger in death were his loving and supportive parents, Irvin & Lillian Thompson, grandparents, niece Karla Aasen, brother-in-law Kevin Roe, and other extended family and close friends.
Raised on the family dairy farm, Roger was more interested in tractors and cars than cows and barn chores. One of his most treasured possessions was his candy apple red Pontiac convertible, which he had purchased more than 40 years ago. His passion for automobiles carried into his adult life as he owned and operated a used car dealership and body shop. If someone wanted a certain kind of vehicle, Roger would go to auctions and find it for them. Though that business eventually closed, he remained the go-to guy for all things automotive, constantly on the hunt for a great deal. When it came to repairs, he could track down the parts needed and knew the right people to do the work. He also enjoyed going to flea markets, both as a buyer and a seller, as well as attending auctions. He always seemed to find some treasure or deal that he couldn't pass up.
Roger had the ability to connect with people from all walks of life. He could strike up a conversation anywhere about anything, and he was always ready to lend a helping hand -- giving rides, picking up groceries, or whatever was needed. He even dressed up as Santa Claus during the holiday season, and you could also find him bussing tables at Skoog's during special events.
Roger’s legacy continues through his final act of generosity—being an organ donor. His kidney and liver helped two different individuals and his eye and tissue donations will help dozens more. This final act of giving life to others is a source of peace during a sad and difficult time.
Roger’s Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, May 2, 2026 at New Hope Lutheran Church – Pine Creek (E6698 Co Rd V, rural Ridgeland, WI). Visitation begins at Noon with a memorial service starting at 1:30 p.m. A light lunch will be served afterward.
