To The Crist Family & Those That Loved Roger Crist:
Today, I am deeply saddened to learn of Roger passing this September. I thought the fires were the only life changing event this past summer.
But knowing and spending time while working in the Ketchum area for the past 2 or 3 years with the Crist family changed me for the better. Seeing and chatting with Roger and his family with hearts of gold became a spirit lifting highlight of my day as they would always smile and have kind words for everyone, as they went about their daily activities. Roger even in his pain during his illness still managed to smile and keep a good conversation ( although the conversation became shorter as is illness progressed without his consent).
The last memory of him for me was an evening of song, good food and enjoyment at the Crist family local establishment. Roger had stood up on his own two feet asked me about my "Tree Of Life" necklace. I smiled and told him about it. He said that was good and sat down. Struggling to speak, but maintaining eye contact he said my name "Jae" while smiling, wiggling his index finger. Finally saying to me "I'm hungry. I want a hamburger". Giving Roger what he wanted was never a problem, for he gave unselfishly to everyone of himself. His spirit of sacrifice continues even though his living spirit is absent from the body. Roger still lives in heart of many.
My sorrow stems from that in the midst of my grieving the loss of my sister the Crist family were there for me by allowing me time to heal. But, I was not there for them while the anchor(Roger) was letting go to allow the ship to sail. I hope as time passes that they will remember Roger with a smile and no more tears of sorrow. Just as I remember my Sissy with a smile and a good memory.
I am eternally grateful for the opportunity to get to know a great man and his amazing family. He was a precious jewel that left us with amazing treasures beyond measure.
I miss you and still love you, Roger.
Love,
Jae'
