Roger's obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Roger Conway, who was born on March 28, 1933, and left us on December 10, 2023. Roger was a beloved member of his community and a cherished family figure. He was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY and was well known for his charismatic persona. He continued to raise his family in the same neighborhood up until he moved to Long Beach, NY where he could sit on his balcony and breathe the ocean air. He also spent winters in his home in Myrtle beach so he can continue his favorite pastime (breathing the ocean air).

Roger was a man of remarkable character, his presence always brightening the room. A humble, generous individual with a big heart, he had a unique zest for life that inspired those around him. He consistently gave his undivided attention to those in his company, showing genuine interest and pride in their achievements and stories. Positivity and vivacity radiated from his persona, and his exuberant personality will be sorely missed.

Roger’s wisdom was profound, yet he imparted it simply. He fervently believed in the importance of family, often saying, "Family is everything." Roger was a man of resolve who believed that every decision carried significant impact, urging, "Make the right choices." He lived by “The Golden Rule,” treating others as he wished to be treated.

He had an illustrious career working for several large companies in leadership positions (Denison, Western Union) until he finally retired (well into his 70s) from the Transit Authority serving as vice president. He was admired and respected by his peers and those he led. This was demonstrated by the heartwarming speeches at his retirement party held at the Transit Authority. It was a proud moment (for all of us to witness). So many described him as “dedicated, dynamic, persistent, diligent, empathetic, sharp and confident”. These were testaments to the work ethics he demonstrated throughout his long, distinguished career.

Roger leaves behind his beloved partner (Maureen Gallagher) and a rich legacy evident in his thriving family tree. His love for his family led to an impressive lineage, with 5 children, 16 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and more to come. Deborah Cooney (Bernard), Roger Conway (Jeanne), James Conway (Antoinette), Page Nardella (Robert), Timothy Conway (Maria) his children survives him. Along with his beloved grandchildren/great grandchildren, Michael Cooney (Patricia) Emma, Brennan, Quinn), Kristin Adrahtas (Dimitri - Shea, Brayden, Jaxson), Matthew Cooney (Nicole - Colton, Cameron, Calli), George Morgan (Stephanie - Alexandra, Dylan, Ryan), Julie Morgan (Savannah & Louis Mariani), Jesse Morgan (Jordan Leandro), Seth Conway (Melissa - Lily, Riley, Liam) Luke Conway (Kristen - Amelia, Evelyn, Aubrey) James Conway, Michael Conway (Danielle), Christopher Conway, Nicole Dasilva (Christopher - Elena Lyn), Christina Nardella, Robert Nardella, Timothy Conway (Vittoria - Donatella, Benedetto), Kaylee Conway. Roger is predeceased by his brother Bidwell Conway and mother of his children Marilyn McCrohan Conway. His legacy will continue to be honored through the principles of family priority, loyalty, kindness, and integrity that he instilled in his children.

Services in honor of Roger will begin with a viewing held on December 13, 2023, 2:00 - 4:00 PM and 7:00 - 9:00 PM at Macken Mortuary, Inc., 3930 Long Beach Road, Island Park., NY.

Final blessings will take place on December 14, 2023, at 10:00 AM to be held at Our Lady of Miraculous Medal, 75 Parkside Drive, Point Lookout, NY. He will be laid to rest immediately after church services burial at Pinelawn Memorial Park and Arboretum, 2030 Wellwood Avenue, Farmingdale, NY.

Those who knew Roger will remember his infectious enthusiasm, resonating wisdom, and unyielding commitment to his family. His life was a testament to the values he held dear and his memory will continue to inspire us all. While his sons carry the title of “Poppy”, Roger will always remain the OG “Poppy”!
