Hillsboro – Rodney D. Smith, 64, formally of Minster, Ohio passed away at 10:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 16, 2024 at The Christ Hospital in Cincinnati.

He was born January 3, 1960, in Dayton, Ohio. Son of the late Sherman D. Smith and Gladys Ruth (Roney) Holland.

Rodney is survived by two children, son, Aaron Smith,  of Sidney and daughter, Jessica Plessinger, of Anna. Also surviving are 4 grandchildren, Trayton Brandyberry, Jaylin Plessinger, Layla Smith and Whitley Smith. Two brothers David Smith, of Peebles, George and Tammy Holland, of Fort Loramie, and a loving companion Gail Suthers, of Hillsboro.

He was also preceded in death by a brother, Gary L. Smith, of Texas. Survived by Sister-in-Law Pam Smith, of Texas.

He was a 1979 graduate of Peebles High School. A truck driver, then diesel mechanic by trade. A handyman and woodworker as hobbies. He loved all things outdoors, on the water and off. Hunting and fishing were a passion, along with camping and spending time with family. We will remember him as a loving father, strong brother and good friend.

The family would like to thank The Christ Hospital staff who provided such compassion and care during his last days with us.
