Rodney's obituary
Rodney Dale Reynolds, 66, of Colonial Heights passed away on Thursday, October 30, 2025, after a long and difficult, but courageous battle with cancer. Born September 7, 1959, in Huntington, WV, he was the son of the late Denvil Leon Reynolds and Shirley Jean (Black) Reynolds. Rodney spent his formative years on Foster Drive in Mason, WV where he developed a love for sports and community before his family moved to Colonial Heights, Va in 1969. He is survived by his son, Derek Ray Reynolds, and wife Samantha, of Chesterfield; sisters, Pamela Page Gavin (Pam) of Hopewell, Patricia Gail Loy (Patti) and husband Pete, of Colonial Heights, his twin sister, Rhonda C. Quinn of Prince George. His passing is also deeply felt by his nieces, Rebecca Lynn Bennett (Beckie) and husband David of Stony Creek, Crystal Gail Pullen (Chrissy) of Prince George, nephews, Ryan Carmichael and wife Chastity, of Dinwiddie, and Jeremy Loy and wife Ashley of Crozet; as well as his Aunt and Uncle, Annette and Bob Parham of Chesterfield, numerous great nieces, nephews and cousins; and his precious grandchildren who were the loves of his life, Morgan Mackenzie Ray Reynolds and Logan Christopher Reynolds; a very special friend and kindred spirit, his liver donor, Alicia Banes of Cumberland, who was instrumental in supporting him throughout his health challenges.
After graduating from CHHS in 1978, Rodney dedicated over 35 years of his professional life to Pre Con, marked by commitment and hard work. He was a die-hard Miami Dolphins fan all the way, and a passionate supporter of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Rodney grew up with a ball, bat, and glove in his hands, and throughout his youth was actively involved with various local sports teams, including VFW 622, WBC, Martins, AAA Little League, Hopewell Moose, Walthall, Optimist, and Eagles Basketball, where he proudly contributed to numerous championship wins. Even after his competitive playing years ended, he continued to serve his community through his work at the concession stand for the Recreation Department. He also enjoyed golf and participated in various bowling leagues. His love for the beach took him on many unforgettable trips to the OBX and Virginia Beach for the Neptune Festival and Polar Plunge. He loved his sweet tea and country music, attending several music festivals and shrimp feasts. Before the closure of Friendly’s, he would stop and indulge in a “Jim Dandy” banana split. More recently his favorite places to dine were Mi Rodeo, Colonial Italian, and Texas Roadhouse. You could often find him at home in the kitchen baking a ham, brownies, and pumpkin pies. Before he got sick, he meticulously maintained his yard, bird bath, and flowers. He loved feeding and watching the hummingbirds. As his health slowly declined, from his recliner, he was still able to view the American flag and the red cardinals that frequented his porch coming all the way up to his front door. He was a man of faith and was baptized in the old Colonial Heights Baptist Church.
Rodney was blessed with so many wonderful, dedicated and special longtime friends. He was well known in the community and left a positive impression everywhere he went. He never met a stranger, and he was always so kind, helpful, and smiling, maintaining a positive attitude even during his final days. Our hearts are deeply saddened but we find comfort in knowing he is free of pain and rests peacefully in the arms of Jesus, reunited with his beloved parents! Despite his cancer, he demonstrated extraordinary strength and grace, earning a place of honor in the hearts of all that knew him. His legacy will live on. Rodney has valiantly gained his heavenly “MVP” wings.
*A special thanks to the Hume-Lee Transplant Center and the entire liver transplant team at VCU for their dedication and amazing care Rodney received in the last 5 years.
