Carol and family, I just saw on Facebook tonight that we lost Rodney.  Was a fantastic person.  My parents were very best of friends with Hazel and LeRoy.  Rodney would always call me at Christmas time.  RIP Rodney with your beautiful mom and dad.  So sorry for your loss Carol and family.
I am so very sorry to learn of Rod's passing as have been "out of town" but please know I am very sorry and am sending my sincere sympathy. He was a wonderful man and brother to Darlene. Peace to all!!!
Thank you to everyone who live-streamed (or tried to) the memorial service for Rodney yesterday, 1/22/21. Here is a video of the service taken via iPad. While the sound is clearer, keep in mind that it wasn’t being consistently monitored during the service, so please be gracious with your expectations. ❤️

Thank you all again for your overwhelming support of us during this incredibly difficult time. Your kindnesses have meant more than you could ever know.

Rod told the story for years about him trying to get to our wedding in his new mustang. Seems he had three accidents in the process. He did get there eventually.
We would stop and talk to him and carol whenever in the area. Always enjoyed his company and sense of humor.
We’ll miss him a lot
Our condolences to carol and Rod,s daughters.
Good by old friend.

When I first moved back from NY to MN in '85, I was driving to see a friend north of Anoka off of Round Lake Blvd. I was short on gas and stopped at a station off of highway 10. I got out and started pumping gas. The guy on the other side of my pump leaned over sideways while I did the same. We looked at each other for a few seconds and I heard "John?" And I said "Rod?" It was like a Woody Allen movie.

What are the odds after all the time, and at the exact same spot, at that moment? We were both running late but caught up for a few minutes before speeding off, laughing as we drove away.

We met Rodney through our friendship with his beloved mother, Hazel, our dear friend. We will remember Rod as a true friend. He cared, he included us with his family, he remembered to call on special days, he loved to tell stories, he loved to laugh. We will miss him. We extend our deepest sympathy and love to his wife, sister, daughters and all of the family. Peace.

Just a little collection of photos of Rodney...

A special Thank You to Sharry Waldriff for so graciously permitting us to use some of my dad's favorite songs from her album, "These Words that I Sing."
Rod was a friend and a good friend. Going to the Wellness Center was more fun when he was there, to talk, to joke, just to wave to. He will be sorely missed. Rod was a friend and a good friend.
I was the new girl in our class at Annandale High School the fall of 1961. Rodney welcomed me immediately and was always kind, friendly and thoughtful. A gentleman. My sister Kathy and I enjoyed and appreciated his friendship over many years. Our deepest sympathy to Rodney’s family and friends. God bless you and give you His peace and comfort.

Hey Rod, going miss ya... Guess we will have to have our yearly breakfast with Tom at a later date.... Donna and I love you... see you soon.
Heidi, I’m so glad I had an opportunity to meet your dad and experience his love of cooking pork chops, including the part where I got to eat one, socialize, and get to know this special person in your life. ❤️ Carolyne
I never met Rodney and I know he was special. Seeing the joy he brought to his family and the love and admiration Heidi had for him in telling stories about her visits with him, his love, support and sense of humor of humor came through. Much love and hugs to Rodney’s family. Love you Heidi, Emma, Henry. -Katrina and Matt Lassegard, Ahna, and Millie
Whenever someone would mention Rodney Johnson the first thing I would remember is how he loved to tease me. He was very involved in the Maple Lake VFW and I belonged to the Auxiliary. One weekend we had a bake sale at the club and I made a batch of ginger snap cookies. I didn't know Rodney had bought a plate of them. The next day some of the members of the post and auxiliary sold grilled pork chops at the Swapper's Meet in South Haven. Rodney was taking a break and sitting in a lawn chair a few feet behind me visiting with some of the guys. Pretty soon I heard him talking about how he had bought some ginger snaps at the bake sale the night before and how terrible they were. He went on and on. All the while I was thinking to myself "did someone else bring ginger snaps because I thought mine were pretty good". I finally turned around and he couldn't keep a straight face. He still insisted they were terrible but I knew he was kidding. So I promised to make him another batch of good ones and I brought them to the meetings a few times. Rodney took his military service and membership to the VFW very seriously and we all appreciated all the work he did. He will be missed by many people. RIP Rodney, I hope someone in Heaven knows how to make good cookies. Jane Decker
