Rodney's obituary

Rodney Derrick Covarrubias passed away 8:49 PM on May 23rd, 2021 peacefully in the presence of loved ones and family, he was 55 years old. Rodney was born October 11, 1965 in Martinez, California to Priscilla Smith and Ronnie Covarrubias. He had spent his childhood in various north and east California Bay Area cities before finally moving and settling to Siskiyou county as a young teenaged boy where he quickly made lifelong friends. Rodney spent most of his life in Siskyou county until his final years where he lived in Oregon with his brother, girlfriend, and his dog.    Starting from childhood Rodney was a standout star athlete; only his joy of a sport would eclipse his talent. His biggest sport acheivement being 3 full ride scholarships for greco/roman wrestling. His love of sports led to a long lived dream of becoming a coach and to teach the youth the joy of sports, which he later realized by becoming little league coach for all of his daughter’s sports teams.      Rodney had married his high school sweetheart, Denise Kendrick, directly out of high school in 1982 and started work in what would be his lifetime career of being a drywall  journeyman in construction. He soon after welcomed what would be the first of 7 daughters in 1984. Rodney went on to welcome 2 more daughters in 1988 and 1990 before the resolution of his marriage in 1993. He later went on to meet his second wife in, Stacey Maltbie, where he would have his next 2 daughters in 1995 and 1996. Finally, Rodney went on to marry his 3rd and final wife, Jamie Hogan, in 2008 after having his last two daughters in 2000 and 2002.    Those who knew Rodney couldn’t help but love him. Rodney was known for his infectious laugh and inviting smile. It has been said that there was no strangers in Rodney’s presence and that anyone was a potential friend. He had a talent for making anyone in his vicinity smile and feel welcome. Rodney made it his mission to take care of anyone and everyone. Rodney would sometimes be found at his elderly neighbor’s home taking care of their lawns or down the street creating one of his epic obstacle courses for all the neighborhood kids.  He will be remembered for his loud singing in the mornings and his boisterous laughs.     Rodney is predeceased in death by his mother Priscilla Larsen, his father Orlin Larsen, and his brother Steven Larsen. His legacy shows in his daughters (whom he is survived by) Denette, Dennell, Diandra, Brianna, Kassandra, Anna, and Isabella. He is survived by his remaining three brothers, three sisters, a very large extended family, and his beloved dog Crash. If you could ask him what his greatest joys were in life he would say his daughters, his dog, and most of all his seven grandchildren Rose, Lavender, Charlie, Myliis, Henlee, Hunter, and Cindellah.   As of now the family is in mourning and a private family celebration of life camping trip (in commemoration of his love of camping) will be planned at a later date.
