Rodney's obituary

In loving memory, Rodney E. Atkins, Jan. 6, 1962 - July 25, 2024. Rodney “Pops” Atkins passed away peacefully surrounded by family on July 25th after an extended battle with COPD. He is survived by his two perfect angel children, Samantha Atkins & Rodney Atkins II, his siblings Schressa Ward, Jamie Atkins, & Brian Atkins, his mother Glenda Perry, as well as grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He is preceded in death by his lifelong best friend William “Padre” Severt, half-brothers Arden Perry & Ralph “Ralphy” Atkins, father Ralph Atkins, and all of his grandparents.

Pops lived his life his way, like a rockstar, doing what he wanted when he wanted and didn’t let anything stop him. The bulk of his life he lived in Akron, OH, but also had lived in other parts of Ohio, West Virginia, Michigan, and North Carolina. For the last 20 years he played spades in various leagues online. He loved his spades family as much as his real family, and in some ways, probably more so. If you knew Pops, then you heard at least one dirty dad joke from him, probably told to you at the peak of the most embarrassing possible time. He was great at making people laugh. His last wish was to be buried with his grandma Ruth on Mount Tabor.

There will be a small family service at the Mount Tabor Church of God in Saint Albans, WV on September 13th, after which his cremains will be laid to rest with Ruth Atkins.
