Robin's obituary

Rob's Obituary

Robin Carl Crisler was born July 9, 1976, in Sacramento, CA, to Robert Lee Crisler and Cheryl Van De Grift. He passed away October 27 from Fentanyl poisoning.

Rob spent his first 5 years in Northern California, never far from his grandparents who had a major role in caring for him while his mom worked.

Two years into his life, Rob was joined by his Sissy Pie, Erin. He loved being a big brother, barely more than a baby himself, but he took his job seriously and that was to make Sissy happy.

He had a special relationship with his Grandpa and Grandma spending weeks most summers with them after we moved to Idaho. Their home in Loomis, CA, was a child's dream, swimming, riding his bike on “80 Acres,” puttering around with Grandpa and reading.

Rob was a gentle child. He was an amazing Lego builder, he drew imaginative watches that could do incredible things, kind of like the ones we wear now. He was a gifted artist, bussed across town to the Gifted and Talented program for art. He was also placed in Accelerated Math at South Jr. High.

A big kid at heart, he was a man of irrepressible optimism, a larger-than-life presence who was often loud, had a laugh that took others along with him, he was an outgoing introvert. He had a very raucous gang of girls who loved being involved in and often were the authors of many shenanigans with their boy cousin. He was the only boy until brother Sam and Cousin Eli joined the family - we ended up with 8 girls - sister, step-sisters and cousins - and 3 boys.

Sam and Rob shared a deep connection. 14 years apart in age, their relationship evolved into one of shared humor, love of music, occasional shared living accomodations and a deep and abiding love of food. When the two of them were together laughter filled the room. Sam’s wife Delaney was a great audience and a wonderful cook - Rob thought of her as a sister.

Having recently graduated from Carrington College in Massage Therapy, Rob was excited to expand the ranks of Black and Mixed Race MTs. He also earned his Commercial Driver’s License, and he was very proud of that. Rob had close friends at the ACLU with whom he had worked on Criminal Justice Reform, testifying before Idaho House and Senate committees several times. Rob also created quite a few Instagram groups often based around multi-racial, multicultural issues - he had a burning desire to create a community where he saw and felt it was needed.

Drugs were a part of Rob's life from his teen years robbing him of his freedom and often the ability to make his dreams come true. He had been doing so well this year, but he had a fatal slip this time.

Rob is survived by his beloved daughter Amourah of Jackson, MS, his mother Cheryl Edson and Step-father Gary, his brother Sam and sisters Erin, Carly, Lauren and Eryn, Tina and Irene, uncles Bill (Marsha) and Brian, his adoring cousins April, Amber, Emma, Ashley, and Eli. He was uncle to Freddie, Cooper, Joslyn, Cecilia and Drake. The next generation of cousins is too numerous to list individually, but they know who they are and they know that he loved nothing more than to tease and tickle them all.

A Go-Fund-Me account has been set up to benefit Amourah's upcoming college years.
