Roberto's obituary
Roberto Alexei Rivera, 51, of Long Beach, CA passed away suddenly on November 9, 2024 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. His loss is felt through his family and those who loved him and words cannot express the grief that we all feel.
Roberto, known to family as Chobe, or to friends as Berto or Rib, was born September 4, 1973 to Lillian Urrutia in San Salvador, El Salvador. Roberto attended Westmoor High School in Daly City before attending Heald College for his Associates degree in Information Technology. Later he obtained his Bachelor of Arts in History from Cal State University East Bay in 2010 and in 2022 was so proud to have his Masters of Library & Information Science degree from the University of Denver.
Roberto worked for UCSF for 11 years in San Francisco before moving to Los Angeles in 2016, where he began a career at the Los Angeles Public Library as a library clerk and had dreams to become a librarian. He loved working at the Wilmington Branch Library and made friends with all his coworkers and enjoyed their company and expertise. Roberto also ran his own successful mobile notary business in Long Beach.
Roberto had a love for life, family, and his motorcycle club Redrum. He never stopped smiling through life, and that smile was contagious. You could see him traveling to Japan, Italy, the Bahamas, Belize, or St. Lucia at the drop of a hat. He could be in New York, New Mexico, Vermont, or Missouri if you just checked Facebook. He might be checking off bucket list endeavors like riding on the Goodyear Blimp or seeing the Northern Lights in Alaska or sailing the fjords of Norway. He may be attending sporting events and rooting the hardest for the San Francisco 49ers, the San Francisco Giants, LAFC, or the Anaheim Ducks. He could be riding his motorcycle with the Redrum MC, or bowling in the Laughlin League. He liked to do inline skating, ziplining, ice skating, running 5k's, bicycling... and lately he picked up skiing. He was truly a man that loved to live life and try any new activity!
Roberto was a full patch member of the Redrum Motorcycle Club, Black Oak Chapter. He was an officer. He loved to ride with his club brothers and valued them with his infinite love. He made many friends and considered them his extended family. He rode to raise awareness and support indigenous communities and causes. His brothers will honor him with his final ride.
Roberto loved his community and volunteered for the Los Angeles Mayor's Crisis Response team where he helped victims' families through traumatic events. He was a valuable resource, and comforting presence, for people on their worst days. He wanted to give a little of his light to others at all times.
Our family is forever changed and forever grateful to have spent this incredibly meaningful time with Roberto/Chobe. He is survived by his wife Natalie (nee Eckhart), mother Lillian Dominguez (Jose), sister Celeste Cordova (Jose), brother David Herrera (Gerian), and niece Bea. His friends and family will miss him more than words can express.
Funeral services will be held at 11am on Saturday, December 7th at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery, 6000 Santa Monica Blvd., Hollywood, Ca 90038. All who loved him are welcome to attend.
