Robert's obituary
Robert William Harvey, a resident of Katy, Texas, passed away on September 26, 2023 at the age of 76. He died at M.D. Anderson Hospital in Houston, Texas after a very courageous battle against AML Leukemia.
He was born on April 11, 1947, to Joseph Michael Harvey and Mary Bell Harvey in Cumberland, Maryland.
Bob grew up attending school in Cumberland and graduated from Alleghany High School, Class of 1965. He was an excellent student and athlete. He was named All City for three years and was an All-American Athlete. Bob was offered scholarships to play football at West Point, Purdue and many other schools. However, he chose West Virginia University; the only school he grew up wanting to attend. He received his Bachelor of Science in Geology and then enlisted in the Army. He served in the Americal Division and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. Upon his return from Vietnam, he was honorably discharged from the Army and returned to WVU to receive his Master’s in Geology.
Bob had a long and rewarding career as a Petroleum Geologist. He loved his work and had the opportunity to travel all over the world. Upon graduation he was hired by Chevron in the New Orleans office. From there he worked for the Maryland Geological Survey and then moved to Dallas to work for DeGolyer and MacNaughton, May Petroleum, Netherlands Sewell and then back to DeGolyer and MacNaughton in their Houston office.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 41 years, Kathy and their children, daughter Erin Moyer (Kyle), son Colin Harvey and his adored twin grandchildren, Kate and Liam Moyer. Bob had many wonderful friends that he loved and cherished as well.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Mary Harvey and his brother Mike Harvey.
Bob was a member of Second Baptist Church West, and he dedicated his life to Christ. His faith brought him great joy and comfort.
A memorial will be held at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, on Friday November 3rd, at 2:30. Friends and family are welcome to attend the service to honor Bob.
