Bob's obituary
Robert (Bob) Victor Jensen passed away peacefully on July 10, 2023. He was born in Tonasket, Washington, on March 24, 1941, to parents Howard Richard Jensen and Elizabeth Augusta Cleary, joining his older brother, Brian Howard Jensen.
Bob moved to Seattle when he was 12 and graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1959, where he served as student body president.
Bob graduated from Yale University in 1963 and obtained his law degree from the University of Washington School of Law in 1966. After law school, Bob joined the Peace Corps and was stationed in Ecuador between 1966 and 1968.
That is where Bob met the love of his life, Maria Ines Vergara. They were married in Quito on April 14, 1968. Bob and Maria have three children, Howard Fernando Jensen, Dorian Miguel Jensen, and Monica Cristina Jensen. They also have fourteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Bob was an avid outdoorsman, having scaled most of the peaks in the Northwest, including Rainier, Adams, Baker, and Hood, and many in Ecuador, including Chimborazo and Cotopaxi. He biked to work for nearly 30 years and loved to hike, ski, and play tennis.
Bob was an early environmentalist, working tirelessly to protect the habitat he treasured. He was most proud of his work as an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Washington on behalf of the Department of Ecology, interpreting and enforcing the newly adopted Shoreline Management Act. He later served on the Shorelines Hearings Board and Pollution Control Hearings Board.
Bob was a community leader, serving two terms on the Lacey City Council and a term as the President of the Rotary Club of South Puget Sound.
Bob inspired everyone he met with his kindness, devotion, patience, and integrity. His warm smile and cheerful disposition brought joy to every occasion. Bob will be missed deeply.
