Robert's obituary

Robert J. Tracy, age 83, a resident of Elmhurst, IL, died August 27, 2023, in his daughter’s home, surrounded by loved ones. He was born October 6, 1939, in Decatur, IL to Joseph J. Tracy and Norma Cook Tracy. Robert grew up on a farm in Ivesdale, IL just outside of Champaign, Urbana. After graduating high school, Robert went on to graduate with his B.A. (1961) from Knox College, Galesburg, IL and then with his Ph. D. (1970) from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, TX. It was there that he met the mother of his two daughters, Jean Tracy.

Between 1977 and 2005, Robert was a professor of psychology at DePaul University, from which years later two of his grandchildren would graduate with Bachelors in psychology. Dr. Tracy was published in over 20 articles and was awarded many research grants in his professional career.

Dr. Tracy also practiced martial arts for many years, during which he attained his 3rd degree Black Belt, and was active in his church, First Congregational Church of Christ, in the Green Team and was instrumental in establishing the Memorial Garden there.

Over his life, Robert was an advocate for his late brother, his late nephew, and a staunch supporter to his grandchildren, loving father and friend to many.

He is preceded in death by his daughter, Kathryn Tracy Salzano, and ex-wife and great friend Dr. Jean K. Tracy,  and nephew, Stephen Tracy, Jr. Robert is survived by his daughter, Cynthia D Cooper, his partner, Carolee Luppino, his brother, Stephen Tracy, Sr, his son -in-law, Antonio Salzano, six grandchildren: Stefan (and Karli) Salzano, Sean Allen, Caterina Salzano, Ryan Allen, Juliana Salzano, and Jacob Allen and many nieces and nephews.

Robert loved being involved in local politics, enjoying nature, and supporting his family in any way possible. He will be so deeply missed.
