Robert's obituary

Robert Summerville, 88, passed away on the 21st of December, 2018 in Lyndhurst, Ohio. He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Otis and Helen Summerville and grew up there. After attending high school in Philadelphia he attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where he received both his undergraduate and master’s degrees in Chemical Engineering. While with Lummus (now ABB) and Allied Chemical (now Honeywell), he received three patents for his inventions involving the production of nitrogen fertilizer. He retired in 2002.

Robert married Donna Chickering in 1955 in Belmont, Massachusetts. They had three sons and were happily married for 30 years until her death after a long illness. Robert was a member of the Unitarian Church. He enjoyed investing, traveling, and gardening/horticulture as well as activities with his boys including scouting, Indian Guides, sailing, and little league sports. He was preceded in death by his brother, Otis Summerville. He is survived by his loving spouse, his sons, his step son and step daughter, six grandchildren, four nephews, and three nieces.

A memorial service will be held on a future date at the Evergreen Cemetery in Newbury, Massachusetts. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of America at www.alz.org in memory of Robert Summerville.
