Bob's obituary

Robert Stirling White, age 81, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. His life focused on family and a desire to help others. He was known for his strong work ethic, which often included six days in the office as a mechanical engineer and spending time with family on Sundays assisting with home improvements or working in the yard.

Colorful stories from his youth included a pet alligator and pet crow. HIs adult life continued on a fascinating trajectory involving domestic and world travel, hunting with his nephews, and downhill skiing. He never wanted to visit the same location twice and enjoyed exploring areas off the beaten path by motorcycle. His love of new experiences, tinkering, and inventing was shared passionately with his children and grandchildren. One example is the New Year’s Eve tradition of running out the back door at midnight and around to the front entrance to welcome in the new year. Bob loved to joke around and always had a special way of making fun memories. He even earned the nickname “bacon pockets” because he always had treats ready to pass out to neighborhood dogs and family pets.

In passing, Bob leaves behind his wife, Linda White (née Carveth) and sister, Marylou Cross. He is reunited with his mother Norah White (née Stirling), his father Lewis White, and siblings JoAnn Middlewood, Carol White, and John White. He is eternalized through his three daughters, Nancy Krull, Robin (John) Bandos, and Susan Franklin and, most dearly, five grandchildren – Tessina (Matt), Emma, Kaitlyn, Delaney, and Macgregor, plus an infant great grandson, Cody. Bob will also live on through countless cousins and extended family members.

A Celebration of Life luncheon will be held in April in his hometown of Livonia, Michigan, where he met his wife at Bentley High School. Following in the footsteps of his wife’s uncle, Bob chose to donate his body to Wayne State University School of Medicine. The family sincerely appreciates all the support and love from those who knew Bob and wishes to acknowledge his devoted caregiver from Brighton Serenity Care, Ally, who brought him many smiles in his final months.
