Robert's obituary

Robert “Bobby, Bob” Lamar Stanley, Jr., age 75, passed away on March 25, 2022 in Cedar Park, Texas. He was born to Robert Lamar Stanley, Sr. and Francis Ann Williams on March 5, 1947 in Houston, Texas.

He later married Jo Ann Dawn on November 14, 1969 and they had 2 sons, Jason & Eric.

Robert attended Cy-Fair High School playing football all 4 years for the Cy-Fair Bobcats ending with a District Championship and his graduation in 1965. He attended The University of Texas as well as the University of Houston graduating in 1974 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree--Political Science. He had a lifelong career as a residential and commercial real estate appraiser at the company he founded, Stanley & Co. for almost 5 decades. He was medically retired due to a stroke in August of 2020.

Robert loved his career and was very accomplished. He obtained both his Senior Real Property Appraiser & Senior Residential Appraiser designations. He received the “Key Man Award” from the Houston Chapter of the Appraisal Institute multiple times, the Award for Excellence for Appraisal Accuracy and multiple other distinguished awards in the Real Estate industry. He became a certified General Appraiser not just in the state of Texas but traveled doing appraisals all over the United States as well as extensively in Mexico. He was a part of various special task forces and served as an expert witness when called upon. He was also a certified instructor for the next generation of appraisers through Houston Community College & Gulf Coast Real Estate School.

Robert enjoyed helping and volunteering in his community. He served on the Columbus Chamber of Commerce in various capacities spanning over 20 years. He volunteered with the Magnolia Homes Tour & participated in local chili cookoffs for the benefit of other community groups. His favorite volunteer activity was being a baseball coach for the local little league organization where he was instrumental in bringing T-ball to Columbus. His time spent with these young men in the community was something he reminisced about often and it gave him great pride to think of them all and the time they shared until his last days.

In his free time, he loved hunting with his sons, golfing with friends, attending as many of his grandchildren’s events as he possibly could and absolutely any excuse to have a good meal with friends and family. He always had time for a stranger or friend. He loved to make people laugh and had plenty of stories to tell. He was compassionate and caring and helped many people in his lifetime.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Lamar Stanley, Sr. and Francis Ann Brumby.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 52 years, Jo Ann Stanley, oldest son Jason Stanley and wife Kim Frey Stanley, granddaughter Bella, and grandson Shaw of Cedar Park, TX, youngest son Eric Stanley and grandson Devon of Katy, TX, countless cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws, teammates, and a multitude of dear friends and business associates.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 30th, 2022 at 2:00 pm at First Baptist Church of Columbus, TX at 1700 Milam Street (Robert’s church home since 1979) with Pastor Victor Morrison officiating.
